James Blackmon Jr. decommits from Indiana

IPSAC110061a

Here’s an interesting tidbit to hold you over til dinner: 2014 shooting guard James Blackmon Jr. has decommitted from Indiana.

Before you write him off as just another creeped out Crean commit, you should know that Blackmon is one of the top shooting guards in the class, AND he’s the son of former UK player James Blackmon, Sr. He’s a confident shooter with a smooth stroke and tons of upside, and is considered the 25th best player in the 2014 class by ESPN. Blackmon Jr. committed to Indiana back in September 2010, and understandably, may be having some second thoughts. (Either that, or he’s really scared Crean’s going to kiss him at some point next fall.)

He hasn’t been contacted by Kentucky or Louisville…yet. Stay tuned.

Oh wow now I feel pretty damn old because I remember his dad’s recruitment nearly 30 years ago. He and Winston Bennett came in together. Pretty sure they were both recruited to Kentucky by Leonard Hamilton (head coach at FSU now)

Looks like he does not need help getting open or creating a shot when he is guarded. Sign him up!!!

He and Mudiay. Yep. Let’s go.

After the mass exodus that is sure to occur in the Spring of 2014 after banner #9 goes up, Cal would be smart to recruit a handful of guys not ranked in the top 20 (especially guard and wing positions). I think we lose 8 guys. Next year’s incoming class needs to be at least 6 deep IMO. Right now UK has Karl Towns Jr and is in good shape w/ Mudiay, Turner, and Johnson. Need 2-3 more guys to finish off the class.

    Seniors: Hood, Polson

NBA Draft: Randle, Andrew Harrison, Aaron Harrison, Cauley-Stein, Poythress, James Young

Johnson is only going to stay 1 year and I think MKG even mentioned that he thought so too.

5 – very few guys outside the top 10 ranked hs kids are off to the nba after 1 yr at college, you don’t have to go really far out, guys in the teens are more than likely not starting for us and leaving … I like how Cal is looking to recruit larger classes now

    2. I billed blue, u of l is our rival but I would rather then win then duke or north Carolina. It brings revenue to the state and makes us more well know when we play each other. As far as the revenue goes this state could use it instated of people having to leave in search of jobs

#9. What region? I thought Kentucky kids played in Great Lakes. Knox County got eliminated in that region. I don’t think you mean the REAL Little League World Series. Anyway, who won?

IU is the gold standard in college bball and this kids greatness was not up to par with our expectations. I therefore decided to tell him to make this decision so we could shop some more..

His dad was a killer from the corner. Looks like Jr. can create his own shot easier and has good vision when he goes to the rim. If he can be anything like Liggins and be a lockdown defender as well…lookout.
Would love to see him in blue. Plus it would be nice seeing his pop in the stands cheering on.

I remember watching his dad play on the blue courts over by Keeneland Hall…saw him sky for an alley-oop…his nose was above the rim and his hand near the top of the backboard. All the games I’ve seen over the years, it was still the most amazing play I’ve ever witnessed.
