Jamal Mashburn on CNBC: Why not?

As he becomes further removed from his NBA playing days, former Cat Jamal Mashburn continues to be the Bizarro Antoine Walker. From owning half the restaurants on the planet to speaking with the Governor about changing the drop-out age, Mashburn has moved on quite nicely from his FILA days. Today, he joined CNBC to discuss the financial struggles of athletes and how he’s done so well with his money. Let’s hope this is the start of big things for former Cats and we’ll get Woo on with Jim Cramer in the near future.

Jamal is a grade-A example of what college athletics should be about. Not only did UK give this young man a chance to shine on the court, but it paved the way for him to prepare for life after basketball.

For all those talking about how schools should be able to pay athletes, Mashburn is an example of the value of an education and he took advantage of that and it has paid dividends.

From all appearances, UK could not ask for a finer representative, not only of it’s basketball program, but of the school in general. Mashburn was a favorite of fans while playing for UK – he should be a favorite among BBN for the class act he has become.

    Well done Mash!

On a sidenote – Calipari would do well to ask Mashburn come speak to each one of his recruiting classes at the beginning of the school year – let his example speak to them and then make sure these young kids enroll in some communications, finance and business classes.

Greatest post-Rupp era Cat on the floor, great off the floor. With all the NBA money headed to UK players current and future, Cal would do well to bring Mash in at least once every year to talk to the players about not ending up like Antoine Walker.

Unless I’m mistaken Jamal is one member of the investment group that owns those Papa Johns, Outback Steakhouses and Toyota/Lexus of Lexington. Another member of that group is our ol’ buddy, Rick Pitino.
