DJ Eliot is the latest member of Mark Stoops’ staff to get the KyWildcatsTV profile treatment, but first, I’d like to share a story about Eliot from one of KSR’s fans, Pete McHolland. McHolland wrote in a few weeks ago with this picture of his son and UK’s defensive coordinator, along with the following story:
My 7 year old son and I were watching some fly fisherman from a bridge in Silverthorne, Colorado. (Of course we are representing in UK hoodies). We saw a guy catch a 4-pound rainbow trout ten feet from where we were standing. I reached for my phone to take a photo and realized I had left it in the car.
As we are walking back to the car I hear, “C-A-T-S cats cats cats.” I flash him the three goggles and he calls is over and asks if we are football fans. I said, “we try to be, were excited for what’s coming over the next two years in football.”
The guy reaches out to shake mine and my seven-year-old’s hand and tells us he is DJ Eliott. Immediately I knew he was the defensive coordinator. We talked Jason Hatcher, Drew Barker, and Matt Elam– He made it a point to tell me how much they want to keep these talented Kentucky kids in state.
Long story short, the guy was totally awesome. He initiated the entire conversation. He talked to me as long as I wanted to talk to him (easily ten minutes) and I let him get back to fishing.
This staff is just too cool. Fly fishing in the Rocky Mountains, and he loves the cats and his job so much, he couldn’t let a 7 year old with a UK hoodie walk by without talking football.
