It’s official: teams can start practicing two weeks earlier this season

Good news from Indianapolis: the NCAA’s proposal to move the first practice of the season up two weeks is now official. Now, teams can begin practicing on September 27th, six weeks before the season opens on November 8th. During that period, they’ll be allowed to practice 30 times, the same number as before, but it will allow for more flexibility with scheduling. For teams as young as the Cats, each of those practices will be crucial.

The NCAA also eliminated the requirement that teams’ first practice begin no earlier than 5 p.m, which opens up the possibility of “Midnight Madness” festivities actually happening at midnight if the team desires. Previously, Cal has said that they will not move the date of Big Blue Madness from it’s regularly schedule date of October 18th.

Is it late September yet??

The rumor mill has really picked up steam here in North Carolina saying Wiggins is UNC bound.

This is good news for the young cats since they’ll get extra practices. Teams easily get around the “30 practice limit” because it doesn’t count as a practice unless coaches are actually in the gym. So, coaches will regularly schedule “open gyms” for the guys to attend. Without fail, there’s always that 1 veteran who knows what drills the team should do and the exact order they should do them….

@1-before you post, think of something real other than rumors. Go to the Wiggins’ home, knock on the door, ask “may I please speak to Andrew?” and if allowed to, ask what university he plans to attend, and then get back to all of us with his answer.

Here in North Carolina, our rumor mills are still steam-powered. We are kind of behind the times in a lot of ways.

This seems like a pretty meaningless change if they don’t actually get any extra practices. Maybe someone can explain how this is actually helpful with a real-life example?

    1. you are correct. He will be UNC bound in December when he travels with UK to play the heels.

10 – See the explanation in #5. Coaches get to schedule “open gyms.” AKA, player-run practices.

If this rule was implemented last year, that young team beats Robert Moriss in the first round of the NIT and goes on to the second round of the NIT

This could only helps us. Always a young team, having a little more time to adjust to campus, a little more time to practice on their own and workout and play pickup using what they’ve taught in practice, and having a little more time for the returning vets, or visiting alum players, to “teach,” these things are invaluable.

I’d expect our freshmen to be a little more relaxed starting the season, even though they’re going to be under the national spotlight more than any team Cal’s had other than Wall’s class.

    1) They’ve said that every day, and each “announcement tomorrow” promise has been BS.

    13) A lot of our guys are on campus early in the summer. Last year, Noel was the last to arrive, I think, because he was finishing up some stuff necessary due to his reclassifying. Wiggins could have similar issues, but most of the rest of the guys will probably enroll in July or something. Still, once everyone’s on campus and the news is checking in constantly, it’ll be a lot to take in.

    14) If Noel doesn’t hurt his knee, we make the NCAA tourney.

==== Two extra weeks practice ! WOW !

    Maybe :

    (1) Willhe Callhim Frank-n-Stein can practice enough to shoot 40% in free throw percentage !!! His footwork and hands need improvement also ……… maybe extend his range to 10 ft. instead of three also !!!

Luckily, we have Daktari Johnson to play center ! ‘n-Stein can watch from splinterland !

    (2) Let’s, in fact, do sumpin’ Calamari has a distaste for completely (TEACHING FREE THROW SHOOTING AS A TEAM!) might just HELP us win some games …… just sayin’

    (3) Alex Iwearadress can practice what he does best ………. disappear ……… what a magician !

    (4) Coach can observe what I already see …… we’ve got D E P T H ….. so, ……… you can actualy give OVER 5 minutes to as many as ten players ….. okay, so I’m expecting too much for you to play up tempo and PRESS FULL COURT like they do down the road in the VILLE …… LOL

    (5) Do not let the holdovers, or the newcomers do what they did last year ………. EMBARRASS the entire state of KENTUCKY !!!!

This is a BIG year for coach … take a dump, or get off the pot !!!

The TRUTH and NOTHING BUT ……. according to OL’ PIX !!!!
