It’s official: LSU-Bama II for the BCS title

sabanmiles

Well, it’s not officially official, but it’s pretty close. Jerry Palm of CBS is reporting that it will indeed be LSU and Alabama that play for the national championship on January 9th, meaning the SEC will win its sixth consecutive championship after the first ever BCS title matchup between two teams from the same conference. Let the annual weeping and wailing begin.

The odd man out in this year’s BCS reign of terror this year is Oklahoma State, whose only crime was losing one game in double overtime a day after the tragic plane crash that killed two members of the OSU women’s basketball staff. Even after destroying top-10 Oklahoma last night and beating good teams along the way, Oklahoma State will apparently be passed over in favor of giving Bama a shot to avenge its only loss. Despite OSU arguably getting jobbed, the title still game has the potential to be a classic. Hopefully it’s a classic that actually involves scoring touchdowns.

Most of the bowl matchups have trickled out and the other BCS games will be announced soon, and you can see all of them here.

I don’t think Oklahoma State got “jobbed” at all. Look at who Alabama’s only loss came at the hands of and then look at who OK State lost to. There’s quite a difference in the quality of those two teams. I think we all know that Bama and LSU are in fact the two best teams in the country.

Sorry, but I don’t case what the situation is. You can’t play for the National Title when you lose to unranked Iowa State. Nothing Oklahoma State did was impressive enough to wipe away that memory.

I hate that people are using the plane crash as an excuse. It’s crap. The best two teams in the nation should play for the national championship. LSU and Alabama are the two best teams in the nation. Period.

Why the hell do they wait over a month to play? By the time its bowl time, its in the middle of basketball season and I could care less about it then.

#2 a few years ago LSU lost to an in ranked UK and went to the championship and won it. If Alabama cannot win its own conference championship they do not deserve to play in the national championship. By the way OSU beat five ranked teams and BAMA only beat two.

Why does LSU have to play anybody for the National Championship? They are the ONLY undefeated team!! BCS is so stupid!!!

The real interesting thing is going to be… how does LSU feel if Bama wins this and takes home the trophy. Won the wrong game I suppose. Fail.

I bet 90% of OSU players didn’t know the coaches names until day of crash. Did the crash only start to bother them after they got up by 17?

The plane crash was tragic but I doubt it really weighed that heavily on any football player’s mind. Maybe if the Big 12 was a viable enough conference to have a title game that would have helped them.

I think Alabama is way overrated there two ranked wins were against a bad penn st team and arkansas who got exposed by lsu to. Oklahoma state lost in double ot the day of the plane crash and just hammered oklahoma. Ok st should be in over Bama

And yes, it is despicable that people use that plane crash as an excuse for a football game. That is just sick, football is not life and death like some would have you believe.

The plane crash derailing Ok St is a weak excuse. I’d be willing to bet half the football team did not know the Women’s basketball coaches names, much less it effecting them in a game.

    Ok, let…

    LSU vs Oregon (again)…

    Alabama vs Oklahoma St…

    Winners play for national championship.

An SEC team will still win it all (and the SEC will make an extra 30mil).

Simple solution, play a one game semifinal playoff game between Bama and Ok State on Dec. 17th! Would get great ratings, finals would be over, time to rest since their last game, and plenty of time before the national title game on Jan. 9th.

Alabama would pummel OSU..Period. If you no anything about football and good defenses, then you would figure it out pretty darn fast. Don’t allow the illusion of OSU scoring 40 points against Oklahoma fool you because Texas Tech did it and they lost their last 4 or 5 games. Basic observation, the Big 12 hasn’t any defensive teams. LSU by 2 -3 touchdowns against OSU.

Oklahoma State has more quality wins and a harder SOS. Also they won their conference and Alabama didn’t win their division. A playoff would fix this though.

OSU didn’t get jobbed. They lost to a terrible team. Alabama basically tied LSU the obvious best team in the country. OSU bad loss outweighs their good wins. I’m sorry. BAMA is the second best team in the country. The BCS got it right.

OSU schedule wasn’t that much better than Bama’s.

OSU played 4 ranked teams and the only teams left in top 25 are Baylor (15th) (not ranked when OSU played them), Okla. (19th) and KSU (11th). Not to mention got beat by 6-6 Iowa State

Bama played 4 ranked teams and the only teams left in top 25 are Penn St (23rd) Arkansas (7th) and LSU (1). Only loss is to LSU by 3 who crushed everyone and beat a ton of ranked teams.

So for people to say OSU played a much tougher schedule is a myth.

    31. No one said a much better schedule, but according to the computers they played a tougher schedule. And the three wins you mentioned for Alabama were the only teams they played with a winning record. And Penn State is awful. Alabama had their shot at the national title and pooped themselves at home on national television. It should be someone else’s shot. Or have a playoff like every other sport known to man except figure skating.

    27. I agree with that. College football needs at least a 4 team playoff. But Arkansas pretty much runs a “Big 12 offense” and look what BAMA and LSU did to them. Yea the system sucks, but OSU lost to a horrible Iowa St team. The two best teams are playing for the championship.

Look we all know Alabama and LSU are the two best teams, but the team getting screwed by this is LSU. So if they lose to ‘Bama on a neutral field, despite beating ‘Bama at ‘Bama they lose the national title? ‘Bama got their shot at LSU, at home, and lost. I know this isn’t a “play off” – but that was their play off game. They lost. OSU is worthy with one loss from the second best conference, and they won their league. When Georgia didn’t win the east (they tied and UT won the tie breaker) a few years ago, LSU jumped them the last week of the season after winning the SEC championship and got to play in the title game despite 2 losses. The argument – UGA didn’t win the East – how can play in the championship game? Why doesn’t that apply to Alabama now?

If ‘Bama was in the East, and they played LSU in the regular season and SEC championship game, and they split, then a rubber match national championship game makes sense. But in this situation it just isn’t fair to LSU. It isn’t so much that OSU is better than ‘Bama, it is that OSU, unlike ‘Bama and Oregon, haven’t already lost to LSU.

LSU is screwed by this. ‘Bama is lucky as hell to get a second chance after losing at home. And they looked like the better team despite losing, so they might actually win this thing.

Ok state has more wins over ranked opponents than Alabama and they won their conference. OK state’s only loss came a day after the death of their women’s basketball coach. They were up in that game 24 to 7 but they just were not fired up to play. BCS national championship is a joke. Thats why I love college basketball. With that said it’s more money for our conference. So I guess I like it.

I just wish OK state could’ve faced either LSU or Bama so these people saying they got screwed would be snapped into reality. So they thumped Oklahoma, so did Texas Tech at Oklahoma. I agree with JackBluto LSU is getting screwed by having to play the second best team in college football. If you didn’t like the intensity or hitting in the first LSU Bama game then you’re not a real football fan.
