As expected, the rest of the nation is green with envy this morning after yesterday’s blue-letter day for the Cats. From the news that Nerlens is in the clear, to the addition of Marcus Lee, to Cal swinging his swag all over ESPN and finally, the thirty-minute recruiting infomercial that was ESPN’s All-Access special, there were plenty of reasons to be jealous of the Cats. So much so that Govolsxtra.com’s Brendan F. Quinn wrote a post last night entitled “Hard for nation to see UT basketball behind all that Kentucky blue.” He asked Cuonzo Martin and his players about the special, which, to their credit, they mostly brushed off.
Cuonzo Martin, who is entirely too likeable to be the coach of the Volunteers if you ask me, said that he’s only concerned with his team’s performance on the floor. Even Jarnell Stokes, he-who-doesn’t-know-how-to-stretch, refused to comment on the special, choosing instead to call the Cats a good team. (Maybe he’s learned to keep his mouth shut when it comes to UK after last season?) But junior point guard Trae Golden’s comments were my favorite:
“I don’t think nothing of it. If you win the national championship I guess they’re going to do that for you. I don’t know, it’s like Hollywood at Kentucky. That’s what they do.“
Straight from the mouth of our opponent, I can’t think of higher praise.
