Won 10 in 1977, 9 in 1976, won 8 in 1951 but one was a bowl game. 11 in 1950. 9 in 1949. 8 in 1947 but it includes a bowl win. Won 8+ a few times prior to 1910 but I’m not counting those.

202 – Linda Taylor: To some extent you are right. I also know that when Mitch was on the search before Brooks, he was way too hesitant to offer the proper dollars needed to get a legit coach. Brooks, being old buddies with Mitch and having experience in rebuilding a program, was a decent choice at the time. All the goodwill Brooks established is almost lost. I also know, from a business standpoint, there are numerous highly qualified coaches that would welcome the opportunity to compete in the SEC if compensated appropriately. This is not rocket science people. High ego coaches like to be treated according to their ego and their potential. It’s time we pay someone what they are worth instead of trying to find a needle in a haystack, on discount.

Again, I ask, if “throwing money” at the program doesn’t work in any capacity, why do all the other SEC schools pump so much money into their programs?

Every single school in the conference out-recruits us as it is. Maybe UK needs the facilities just to get a leg up in the shark waters of the SEC. And no, facilities don’t buy wins, but luck favors the prepared and the simple matter of the fact is that if UK had been upholding their end of the FB deal over the years in just the facilities alone, we wouldn’t be dealing with this issue right now.

I’ll lose all hope in the football program under Mitch if Houston Nutt or some other old fart becomes coach. We absolutely need a young, energetic, up-and-comer coach just like Vanderbilt got in James Franklin. That is the model UK needs to follow.

  272. JayCee
    11:22 am September 7, 2012 Permalink

UK is reaping what they’ve sewn.

Paradigm shift from the bottom-up is in order or we’ll eventually just see another recycling of the same ole same ole (no matter who the next coach is) and that will inevitably spell a loss of FB revenue for UK. That whole fool me once thing…

That’s our only hope to be successful, IMO. And that entails a decade or more of TLC before we ever even approach caching names.

#264 I said “when they are good”. They aren’t routinely a good team, but when the ball is rolling over there and they are leading the Big East, they are getting significantly better talent than UK. Happened with Petrino, and now with Strong.

Football Cats have won 8 or more games a year since 1948. As many times as Basketball Cats have won NC’s. The world didn’t start when you were born Matt Jones. Don’t count the 5 basketball NC’s since 1948 if you don’t do the same with football wins.

There is a good chance the Jets suck this year and he gets fired. Matt,

If Joker is so loyal to UK, that he’d never leave UK for a better job, why is the justification for making him “Coach in Waiting” always based on the notion that he was interested in leaving UK for another Coordinator position at a better program?

If Joker was legitimately interested in stepping up the ladder for a better OC position, there is zero doubt he’d leave UK if he had the chance.

Honestly, I wouldn’t fault him if he did leave if he were that successful.

I hate to say it, but an up and comer won’t come here (Willie Taggart), because there is a good chance he can’t win here and his career ends early. If he waits and goes to a bigger school, his chances of winning increase. Those guys will wait for a Florida, Auburn, Texas, or even a Rutgers. Even if the school isn’t better, they can win easier in a lesser conference.
