It’s Come To This

Oregon and Michigan State, you didn’t get the jobs done last night. I’m not pleased. I’m shoving my battered VHS of Mighty Ducks to the back of my video shelf for awhile. But as they say, it is what it is- and now UK fans are left with a choice. Who is the lesser of two evils in the Midwest Regional Final? Tell me your thoughts.

I’d rather see Rick win and give our in state rivalry the obvious top spot in the nation. Plus I don’t mind throwing those dogs a bone. I like talking trash to my ‘Ville friends and they like to do the same. Fuel to the fire. I can see nothing but good things for KY if they win. Plus I would love to stomp their team next year after they win a championship and win another one of our own.

Aside from Christian Laetner I have nothing but respect for the Duke program. They could easily play in a place like the Yum Center or Rupp but they play in a place smaller than old Memorial Coliseum. They have a coach who would die before going to UNC and who knows what decent, normal, coaches don’t do. Hear that Pitino. Their players act educated. They win every year. Every year Coach K has them up their. They are class. Don’t get me wrong I am Big Blue Nation all the way but the hatred thing for Duke is stupid. They were supposed to pound us in 1992 and won by the skin of their teeth. That’s no reason to hate them. Now hating Pitino, who has no loyalty either professionally or personally, now that’s a different thing. Go Duke in the next game and then let someone else win the championship. But anybody other than U of L with traitor Rick.

Let’s reverse the question: How could anyone from the state of KY root for Duke? How on earth is that possible? Root for the floppers, Rat Face and the Cameron idiots? 31 Neither will Duke. Pitino doesn’t deserve his ego to be fed any more than it already is. If he wins at U of L it will make the win in 96 seem like it was more his victory than UKs. If he never wins another one it makes it look like he rode us and not the opposite scenario.

Seriously! The majority of you would vote for Duke over the Cards???Does the name Laettner or Hurley ring any bells. HOw bout Coach K. The one thing you can say for Rick P is that he SAVED THE UK BASKETBALL PROGRAM. The Cards are also an in-state team and if they win, the status of the state of KY on the basketball front is increased. I would not root for Duke if they were playing Carolina! You people are sick. If you walked onto the Duke campus the students there are so elitist, they would sneer at you. i do not think that most Card fans would cheer for Duke to beat UK. I think I’ll become a Card fan!! Everytime I think of Duke, I see the “shot” and living in Durham NC at the time remember the homes in my neighborhood emptying out onto the street with people waving Duke flags -So PLEASE PLEASE do not cheer for Duke. i hope a sinkhole opens up and swallows their bus.

bottom line… if you’re a true UK fan you don’t cheer for “The Cards”. That should be obvious. And what “good” does UofSmell winning do for the state? Duke is fun to hate, but revenge in ’98, last years championship, and 20 years has healed my wounds. Hating Duke and wearing silly “I still hate Laetner” t-shirts only makes us look goofy. If you are a UK fan living in Louisville surely you understand why “the cards” winning is a terrible thing. We live amongst fans who measure every accomplishment they have against what we’ve done. A ten year old kid can’t go to school in a UK shirt without some jackass counselor saying, “wrong shirt” or some crap like that. It sucks living here amongst redneck “card” loser fans who would rather us lose than they win. There is a difference between “bleeding blue” and being a U uhh K fan. A fan who bleeds blue doesn’t pull for “the cards” in any circumstance.

    11:25 am March 30, 2013 Permalink

Just an aside : UK this year played both close, and beat Florida. It was not the complete black hole we’re consigning it to.

Ugh – in just practical terms, UL has two titles, Duke is closer to UK in that regard, so UL. Then either the tightly controlled Ohio State or the scrappy W. St. takes them out. If that fails and Florida say fails to stop them in the final, there will be one silver lining – UL fans will start saying that this team is as good as UK was last year, and that is so absurd that it will be a joy to put that down.

  76. John Ellis

I will cheer for Duke. Did a test run last night during the Ducks game and had my mind “right” to cheer for the Cards. I was just going to suck it up and do it. You know; be a good Kentuckian, remember what Pitino did for us, Dieng is a sweet man, etc. My body just wouldn’t follow thru. Broke out in a cold sweat with the 1st attempt at “go Cards”. My mouth would not work. The more I tried, the more nauseated I got. Tried some Crown Royal with a malt chaser as an antidote. Didn’t work. I feel like such a failure and a bad person as well. Oh…..and I have a rash today.

K’s going to win another title anyway, the year that he announces his retirement. Hope we’re having a down year that year.

Of course, I have to hear my mother going on and on about how it’s fitting Duke wins another title since her friend’s mom died last year and she was a Duke fan. I’m sure Louisville fans have died this year too, same as UK fans, Syracuse fans, etc. It isn’t any more special just because of one person.

How about I just root for the Buckeyes to be really really good next weekend?

For those who say you aren’t a true UK fan if you want UL to beat Duke then you aren’t thinking intelligently.

    Christian Laettner

Duke is more of a threat to UK from a historically standpoint. A Duke win pulls them closer.

UL is an in state team and a good showing by them enhances our rivialry.

Pitino did do some great things at UK.

I generally like this UL team and the players.

I’ve had many friends play for different UL teams.

I live in Louisville so if UK can’t win I want my city to represent.

There are bad fans in every fans base. Don’t let these fans make you hate a program. Only shows you are on their level.

However I wouldn’t mind someone else beating UL….just not Duke!!

That makes 2 more championships we could have had if he had been a better coach. For those pulling for UL, have you considered this: UL has won a lot of their games simply because they FOUL the opponents on EVERY possession. Do you reallly want to award a team whose coach has taught his team how to “screw” the rule book, foul as much as possible to disrupt the other team and pray they don’t get for called multiple violations. Luckily for UL, Pitino knows that for the past few years the referees have basically been lazy, incompetent blobs on the court, so he’s confident that if his team fouls a lot, less than half will probably be called. Bascially, Pitino is teaching his kids to play streetball in NCAAMB. This has definitely led to the degradation of all of college basketball.

So, why would I support a team that KNOWS what they are doing is against the rules, but they do it anyway.
Go Duke and I hope Coach K makes the refs of EVERY foul that UL commits against his fragile team. If so, then the game is over at half-time because UL will have to forfeit.

I’ll have to pull for Duke in this one, and here’s why: I will always hate Louisville! I have, at times, hated Duke as well. This year’s Duke team is just not one of those teams that I hate. I’m not one of these guys who hates Duke every year because of what happened in 1992. I hate when they show that highlight over and over, and I even have a strong dislike for the guy who made the shot (I’ll not mention his name). Louisville will always be the rival that I never want to see being successful. As much as I dislike Coach K., I still have a ton of respect for what he has done at Duke. As much as I loved Pitino when he was at UK, and yeah, I was upset when he left for Boston (I got over that), but the fact that he had the audacity to come back to the state of Kentucky and coach our all time biggest rival, Louisville, is not easily forgivable. Duke will have my support against Louisville on Sunday, and it’s not even close to being the other way around. Heck, there’s even a kid from my home town who plays (sits the bench) for Louisville this year and I’m not even pulling for him to win. As much as I may dislike Duke in certain years, I still have a ton of respect for them. I have no respect for Louisville. I work with, and know many Louisville fans and all they do is talk trash. I know a Louisville fan who was talking so much trash to me because they were the number one overall seed this year. Folks, being a number one seed doesn’t mean anything, if you don’t finish the job. Just ask Indiana, Kansas, and Gonzaga if you don’t believe me. I will be pulling for Duke on Sunday!

Well, this is really a conundrum…what would be the lessor of two evils….

Here is how I reasoned my choice…. We call “Loser”-ville, and their sperm-donating-coach “little brother” which implies they are to a rather minuet degree, family. So I choose “family” rather than the “big bully” down the street.

However, in my family, big brother often beat up on little brother, so next week, since their sperm-donating-coach does, in fact, make them the “black-sheep” of this so-called family, should little brother prevail, I think would be a very good time for little brother to get a beating!

Actually, I do not care whether the “big bully” or “little brother” wins; which ever wins this week, I want them to get the snot kicked out of them next week.

I do agree with most of the observers that say “Loser”-ville will never catch Big Brother Blue in championships, so that is another reason for picking them.

And for your poor BBN fans that have to live in “Loser”-ville and listen to the Turds….come on out here to Colorado….we do not hear either of them… πŸ™‚

I don’t care what you say a UK fan can never root for Duke no matter what. I remember jumping off the couch, I was 19 then, when Christian Lattner hit that shot. Also, who can stand Mike K.? I say root for neither UofL nor Duke and let the chips fall where they may. I have to say Louisville over Duke. At least the trophy stays in Kentucky!

It’s is a all time low for me as a UK fan! Any so called UK fan that could ever pull for loserville is sick and it makes me want to puke that 49 percent are pulling for the shanks from UL! Duke, Duke, Duke, Taliban, Taliban, Taliban….Charlie Manson, Jack the ripper, any one but the SCUM from loserville! All you so so called UK fans that pull for loserville burn every UK shirt you have we true fans despise you !!!

Being a true UK fan one cannot root for Duke. During the NCAA’s after UK, I root for 1 – SEC teams and 2 – Kentucky teams. I have UL and FL in the final game in my bracket. Duke is too close in Nat’l championships. I just don’t see how any KY fan could want Duke to win. Duke losing to Lehigh last year was almost as good (not quite :-)) as UK winning it all.

This is easy- I want Louisville to win. Good for the state and our rivalry. However, I doubt I will be able to root for them, so I’ll probably watch a movie…

Who would you rather win the title. Louisville has two while Duke has four. I’d rather have the Cards be one closer than Duke. That’s just my logic.
