Last night in my house, it was all UK hoops. First, it was preseason game between NO and Houston. Awesome displays by Davis, TJ, and Darius. PPat didn’t get much PT, but I was still glad to see TJ ballin out and getting a lot of respect. Then I watched All-Access, and then the Blue/White game on ESPN3. I couldn’t be happier.

Two takeaways from All-Access last night. 1.) 30 minutes is not enough. 2.) It really made me dislike Jerry Tipton (even more than I already do) for that “huskier tone” question. Obviously Ryan Harrow is somewhat self-conscious about it. Jerry Tipton is a troglodyte.

Not worried about Noel’s offense, didn’t we win a championship ball game with Anthony Davis shooting 1 for 10 from the floor, so long as he produces on the boards and the defensive end.

  65. Austin
    10:24 am October 25, 2012 Permalink

Biggest things for me from last night:

This team is going to intimidate people in the paint on defensively. There were a number of instances where players would drive to the paint, hesitate on shooting and pass it back out. I cannot wait to see Noel and Caulie-Stein on the court at the same time.

Archie Goodwin and Alex Poythress are going to have games this season, where they are going to take over games. Goodwin is not only quick getting to the basket, but he also has the ability to slither around that second defender. As for Poythress, Willie Caulie-Stein said it best last night, “He’s gonna dunk on people this year and it’s gonna hurt.”

Ryan Harrow needs work. It was funny watching Kentucky All-Access last night and seeing Cal get on Harrow for not communicating and being tough. Then when watching the game, you could see it. Harrow has the talent, but when he penetrated last night, he never was able to get people open and for an easy basket.

  118. Kentucky Walk Ons?
    10:44 am October 25, 2012 Permalink

Glad to see Tod Lanter getting to play and hopefully becoming full-time walk-on. I wonder if Cal might regret choosing two walk-ons from the East Coast that clearly can’t really help the team in any meaningful way in practice or scrimmages. I am sure Brian Long and Sam Malone appreciate the opportunity they’ve been given and are great kids, but I like the idea of our walk-ons being kids like Polson and Lanter who are from Kentucky and although not top recruits might actually be able to provide some type of competition for the other players. Also, as Polson has shown, with some time in the system these type of Kentucky kids may actually developed to the point where they can become contributors and be given a scholarship if one is available that season….ala Cameron Mills.

    Matt,
Don’t you think these schools would be worse off if ESPN did an all access about them now? Think of how horribly their schools would compare to UK in a show like that. They show call walking through the halls with all the banners and trophies, wildcat lodge, etc. — I think they’d be better off to take the Tee Martin approach with recruits, and say you’ve seen all access Kentucky right? well our school is like that too.
