Despite all of the anticipation and rumblings of a new rivalry among the fan bases and the pair of talking knuckleheads on ESPN last night, Lorenzo Romar and his players are saying all of the right things about their game with Kentucky this evening. Romar has downplayed the rivalry aspect and even said he doesn’t have any issues with Calipari or how the Terrence Jones situation went down. Loquacious point guard Isaiah Thomas said that his team is just as excited for Kentucky as they would be for any opponent on the schedule. In fact, the closest thing to an incendiary comment came from Jones’ former teammate and current Husky freshman Terrence Ross. He said that the game is big and it could become a rivalry. Nothing too sensational.
But, Cal’s not buying it.
In an afternoon meeting with the media today, Kentucky’s head man in charge said that he’s expecting the Huskies to beat up on Terrence Jones. Cal said that he’s told his star freshman “they aren’t your friends” and to be ready for a physical game from his would-be teammates. Part of it could be personal, but a lot of it is probably strategy from a team who is much deeper than the Cats. Nonetheless, it’s going to be a battle. Let’s do this!
