I really am thoroughly depressed…..the Cats lost, all attention now focuses to the NIT of all things, and we are going to enter a few weeks’ stretch where the program is going to be in somewhat of a disarray. The mood is somber among those that are positive and controversial among those that choose to be negative. The Cats lost today for all the reasons that they have lost all year…..turnovers, offensive rebounds allowed, poor shot selection, lack of a bench, bizarre coaching decisions….and the list goes on. It was like the entire season was on repeat right before us.
I just came back from the locker room and it was a depressing place. The players universally are putting on a happy face about the NIT, but none are excited. They all legitimately thought they could win this tournament and now the realization has set in that it wont happen.
Unlike some in the media however, I dont think the next few weeks are going to be interesting and exciting…..I think they will be depressing. No matter what happens, we have what I have really hoped we could avoid….a fan base divided. Lots of people have difficult decisions to make from Mitch Barnhart to Patrick Patterson to Billy Gillispie to DeAndre Liggins to Jodie Meeks to AJ Stewart to Michael Porter. And it isnt clear that any resolution will be anything close to perfect. That depresses me.
What doesnt however depress me is the SEC Tournament….I am determined to have fun. That is why tonight, beginning at 7:30 pm, the live blogs will continue…..if you have questions, save them until then. But for now, I have to find a way to make South Carolina-Mississippi State medicine to cure this depression……good luck.
