I cant do justice to how exciting that was. As great a finish to an SEC Tournament as I have been to and one that left this crowd electric. We still have postgame interviews to come so I will have more later. But a couple of notes:
— After the game, Calipari addressed the crowd and repeated his comments from yesterday about how much this tournament means now because of the fans. He seemed genuinely moved by the fan presence.
— No net cutting. One person around the program said, “not this one…another one.”
— I havent seen the players this joyous in years. There was so much raw emotion during the trophy celebration that it was great to see. Dont tell me one and done kids dont care while they are here.
— I tweeted this out late in the game, but after the last big defensive stop, the offensive play was STILL GOING ON and Calipari grabbed Ramon Harris and said, “THATS WHY YOU ARE MY MAN” because of his big defensive stop on the other end.
— After the game, John Wall admitted he thought UK had won in regulation and Cousins said that while he knew it was Overtime, “I dont think my teammates knew the way they beat me up.”
I must say that was an absolutely amazing game and you are hard pressed to tell me that Mississippi State is not a tournament team. Rick Stansbury just walked by me and looks absolutely deflated. But for Kentucky, pure excitement. This is as good as it gets…well at least until Indy.
