Isiah Whitehead Would Love An Offer

Isiah Whitehead is a mega-talented shooting guard from the class of 2014 who has been making some noise on the AAU circuit this summer. The 47th ranked player in the class sounds like the type of player Cal loves with his ability to take guys of the dribble and finish at the rim. This past week he was playing in the ‘Live in AC’ eventĀ  and said he would most likely be waiting until next year to make a decision, but according to this write up on something could change his mind:

He loves the Wildcats system and their ability to turn elite college players into first round draft picks. As of now Whitehead is planning to take his time and make a college decision after next summer heading into his senior season. He admitted, however, that an offer from John Calipari at Kentucky could change that time table and they have to be considered his favorite at this time.

If Kentucky decides to offer soon could we land our first commitment of 2014?

Gio has a preference for UCONN. Half the team played for him there.

Is it just me or does this kids shot look a bit unorthodox and funny? Shoots from in front of his head but it seems to work.

Why would Cal even take a commitment from a kid rated #47 a year in advance? There is absolutely no reason whatsoever for Cal to do that when he has so many other highly-rated options.

You’re going to hear a lot of guys say UK is their favorite, when they aren’t necessarily even being recruited by UK. If they’re near the top of their class, great, UK might sign them (or not- see Tony Wroten, Quincy Miller, and Chris Walker). If the kid is rated #47, the odds are stacked against him.

Cal’s signed 18 freshman recruits so far at UK. 15 of those were rated higher (RSCI) than 47, with 12 of those 15 rated in the top 20. The only exceptions have been Hood- who Cal inherited, Bledsoe- who was a late-bloomer, and had some ratings that did not reflect his actual talent, and Poole- who was the 1st guy Cal signed after his initial spring of 2009 haul, before he had ever coached a game at UK, and probably before he realized just how much better his recruiting would be at UK than it was at Memphis. Willis will be another exception, but he’s an in-state kid, and we all know that’s a little different.

Whitehead will never get an offer from UK, unless he’s severely underrated, or gets a lot better.

If the kid is top 10, ok. If not, he can wait. Remember Willis was like top 40 last year and now unranked
