Isiah Thomas held a press conference today in regards to Dominique Ferguson’s Facebook harassment and I was lucky enough to completely make up obtain the transcript:
“I wanna talk about Dominique Ferguson’s Facebook wall. If anybody reads his wall… I’m not his friend… but this was brought to me by a mother. I think it’s worth reading. Three-fourths of these wall posts are harassment. It’s slander. And these comments embarrass me to be involved with athletics, tremendously. And these comments had to have been written by people who don’t have a child. Here’s all that kid did… He goes to class, he’s respectful to the media, he’s respectful to the public, and he’s a good kid. And he’s not a professional athlete, and he doesn’t deserved to be criticized for college decisions. If you have a child someday, you’ll understand how it feels.
Then, Isiah raises his tone:
If you wanna go after an athlete… ONE OF MY ATHLETES… you go after one that doesn’t do the right things. YOU DON’T DOWNGRADE HIM, BECAUSE HE DOES EVERYTHING RIGHT, but may not play at the University of Kentucky. THAT’S WHY I’M ON MYSPACE AND NOT ON FACEBOOK! BECAUSE IT’S GARBAGE! AND HIS FACEBOOK FRIENDS THAT WROTE ON HIS WALL ARE GARBAGE! Attacking an amateur athlete that does everything right. And then you wanna start groups and fan pages for athletes that don’t do everything right? Are you kidding me? Where are we at in society, today? COME AFTER ME… I’M A MAN! I’M 40! I’m not a kid. Write on my wall or one of our coaches’ walls. Don’t write on a kid’s that does everything right, that’s heart’s broken. And then say he went for money. THAT AIN’T TRUE! And then to say that he made that decision based on NBA connections. THAT’S NOT TRUE! So get your facts straight, and I hope someday you have a child, and somebody be-downgrades him and belittles him, and you have to look him in the eye and say, you know what, it’s OK, they’re supposed to be your friends on Facebook but they’re really not.
Who’s the kid here? Are you kidding me? That’s all I got to say. Makes me wanna puke.”
