University of Kentucky Basketball, Football, and Recruiting news brought to you in the most ridiculous manner possible.

Is the No-Call the best thing that could have happened?

You’ve seen it by now. In the closing seconds of yesterday’s loss to Florida, PJ Washington drove to the basket to only be fouled hard by Florida. Jay Bilas criticized the official for not making the foul call. Luckily for Kentucky, the ball did go out of bounds off of the Gators and the Cats got another chance to run an inbounds play.

Fans immediately called it a “screw job.” Don’t get me wrong, it was the wrong call, but was the wrong call the best thing to happen to Kentucky? Let me explain… if the official would have called the foul, Washington would have gone to the line to shoot two with a little over 2 seconds left.

Washington is a 59% free throw shooter and 54% since the start of 2018. Do you take your chances that the Freshman makes both of those free throws? Or was the no call the best possible thing that could have happened? This gave Kentucky a shot to tie on one shot or even get a chance at the win.

Yes, if Washington makes them both, Florida would have to go the length of the floor in 2 seconds or make a long shot to win. Overtime would have been inevitable. Would Kentucky have won those five minutes? I’m not so confident they would have.

What if Washington would go and miss them both? Florida would almost be guaranteed to get the rebound and would therefore win the game.

What if Washington goes to the free throw line and makes one of two? If he makes the first of the pair and misses the second, the Cats would have had to have gotten an offensive rebound and putback to have a shot at the win. If he misses the first and makes the second? Kentucky has to foul, which would probably come at around 1.8 seconds and then would have to make a long shot.

When looking at the play, the big downside to the no-call being the best thing that could have happened is the fact that Kentucky struggles so much on inbounds plays. The no-call on the previous play obviously did give Kentucky multiple looks at an open shot.

What do you think? Which outcome gave Kentucky the best odds to win? I am still leaning towards the no-call being the best thing that could have happened.

The no-call benefited Ky. My sources assure me that PJ would have choked at the FT line had the foul been called…

Having a chance to win or go into overtime will always be better than being screwed over. This article is a waste of space.

The replay clearly and unambiguously showed that Washington was fouled hard. In this case, the no-call was indefensible, and it probably cost us the game.

However, our young team put themselves in a position where one bad call by the official cost them the game. Considering how thoroughly we outreboubded Florida, we should never have been in that position. Our guys have to stop screwing around and learn to play as a team when the opportunity comes to close out a close game.

Fla guarded the 3pt line and left the basket wide open. Quade, or SOMEONE,shouldve cut to the basket. No one did. They all went to the 3pt line.

I read the article. Maybe if there was under 10 seconds or around 5, but with 2 seconds left and as a team that doesn’t have inbound plays, I take my chances on the line. One deflection or mishap and the game is over.

Id much rather have ball in that situation. Cal just has 0 inbounds plays and runs 0 offense. Just yells and whines

A bad call or no call is unexceptable and the officials are horrible. Only job where you can do a terrible job and there is no penalty. Fine the refs for bad calls and see if that helps. I don’t know make it like any job in America if you do a poor job. I honestly believe this year is fallout from the harassment of that official that should stick to roofing. Bias punishment for calling out a ref that’s sucks. I hope matt knocks his pecker in the dirt for the lawsuit.

Maybe it was good cause it showcases why having a decent in-bounds play would be nice to have in those late game situations. Maybe cal will look at some old tapes of tubby and steal a couple

JMO, The best think that could have happened was the refs call it like it is and let the players game decide… I don’t have a prob with UK losing because they should have scored more points earlier and the game shouldn’t been in the hands of the poor performing zebras.

O yea…. but we are so young…. for the last 8 years…. wonder why, whos job is that to prevent?

Yea I’m out here supposed to move 600,000 yards of dirt on this old coal mine…. I designed the project, specified the equipment and …. we cannot move anything, the rocks are too big, not my fault, rocks are too big, the equipment is too small/young

I say call a foul if it’s a foul. You can’t predict what happens next. Your best chance is to have a fair game called and have a chance to earn the win. We will never know how the game would play out if the right calls were made. And that goes for both teams.

It sounds like this article says we wouldn’t have made the FTs, and even if he did, we would have lost in OT, so the no call allowed us to be put out our misery. Terrible interpretation of a bad no call.

If Cats were shooting better than 54% from the field, then maybe. Otherwise, you take your chance with the 54% FT shooter.

      9:55 pm January 21, 2018 Permalink

you do know at the ft line this poor shooter has to make 2 shots while from the field we only have to make 1 shot so the odds are much greater.

This should not even be a discussion. It doesn’t matter what would’ve happened what matters is the refs did not do there job. Again. There has to start being some kind of punishment for them doin a poor job. Sports are becoming unwatchable

What if he makes both and we play great for the next 5 mins. We won’t never know that because the refs didn’t make the right call just like when they didn’t make the call against us against Texas a.m. they might have missed the free throws and we might have still won but we will never know because they didn’t make the either call so what if you didn’t write this piece or wrote about something else would we still have read this What if that

This is just a pattern where officials are way too big of a part of the outcome of games. In the Florida game they made these phantom calls and then there were 4-5 where someone got their head taken off and no call. The 3 games before this one the two teams combined for 58, 64 and 74 FT’s taken, with at least 5-10 front ends of 1&1’s missed so officials are calling this many fouls they’re becoming too much of a part of the game. While I’m venting, for Matt Jones and the rest of the media losing their minds over Trae Young and Matt continuing to bring up the fact UK didn’t get him I say I’m very glad we didn’t. UK has a way to go and that’s all 6-8 in the rotation but I’d rather have this group with Green and Alexander running the show than have a player like Young who against their biggest rival Oklahoma State on Saturday went 14-39 from the field in scoring 48 points. I know that Knox, Alexander and Washington could all score 40+ points if they were allowed to shoot 39 times. Oklahoma lost that game in OT, Young took every shot in the OT with the exception of 2. 4-5 times with 20-22 seconds on the shot clock and team mates running all over the place tying to get Young to pass them the ball Young shoots from 35-40 feet. They’ll stay in the Top 25 all year and win a game or two in the NCAA’s but a one man team to this extent isn’t going to make a deep run. Lets this group get to March and see how far along they grown to.

Don’t understand how the no-call is the best thing for UK… It’s the best thing for Florida, not UK!

Most of you hadn’t a clue!!! This group (notice I didn’t say team) THIS AS Greensburg said they are group of individuals and have not the slightest of being a team! I am a 20+ yrs member of army SF, and a Colonel in charge of a a regiment of The best of the best out country has to offer. To be an operator on a Delta force team, you must above all things be hand in glove with your assigned role on one of the team’s!

My observation is simple but has several parts that must be addressed please be patient and try to read all of my post. I apologise in advance for this post as I’m not close to an ideal location to be writing a lengthy post and I rarely post here as well. im currently on a C- 130, a military transport aircraft heading to an u diclosed location, if you have been on one you will know we are all crammed in here freezing our butts of and sitting on seats that suck we will be on here for hours yet, but such is life of SF warrior to the end “our enemy should never sleep, terror comes in the night” hoo-yah!! Our guys need a batte cry that our guys say this before every mission it becomes ingrained.

So if this has typo’s It can be dificult to type on these dang planes. I want point deferance in sratigy and tactics ( Strategy is the overarching plan to achieve a decisive victory and includes time frames troop levels and a clear definable objective the can be defined and measured pertaining to what is the final objective and clarifies when one can declare victory it includes what tactics will be implemented to reach a clear and measurable goals for success and or victory).
As I see it our group isn’t a working team. I could go into great detail on steps needed to expedite this process but it should have been done before season started. IMHO it will not be achieved from this group this season. As much as I admire and love coach Cal his strategy is disjointed from his tactics and I fear group think has taken over. That usually indicates stubborn adherence to tactics that have worked in the past but isn’t reconciling the natural and unnatural elements that are at work everday braking down the youth. Those 21 and under who are the first to be completely have social media and the disconnect it has brought to society, and created a spiritual and intellectual breaking from their fellow man while many benefits have been reaped we must all be fully aware of the real negatives that the youth of or country our has suffered some real unforseen conciquances this over this complete oversaturation constant info and media of all types to where no one looks up any more and a certain apathy has ser in. We in military have tracked this and studied it and we litterly have to deprogram young recruits and break them of an addiction as powerful as any drug. We have lost sight of moderation in all things and these young men have no rel self image its it so often isnt based on facts but felt needs and subjective relivitism where its how many follow me on ss media or how many likes i get things so very shallow and meaningless. Or country has lost much of its face to face and group social interactions that serve to help especially young kids to very young abults.

I wish just as we in military recognized the real pitfals and the potentaul downfalls we realized several years back we must develope
new approaches that must be identified and implemented. As much as I dislike Bob Knight he said one thing that we in military are very aware of. It’s not the kids who changed it is the parents (both parents work, no corporal punishment, and actaully little to no discipline of any kind. Too often,as well Younger collage age have a real lack a real living faith not talking religion but a personal relation ship with our creator, faith that gives young men real inner discipline and a willingness to share and love and put others before self and enables them to be an others first mind set rather than me first which or decaying moral relitivism tend to propagate. However knight said this before the iPhone and there constant addiction to instant and total mind altering (and not for the good it’s purpose is to create disconnect from each other and in a way an AI God of sorts) WE IN JASOC are fully aware of this real darkness that is creating a society of atomotons of sorts.

Cal must stop this terrible part of his strategy recruiting 5 or 6 potential one and dones. My recommendation, sign 2 or 3 and recruit the rest in 3 to 4 year players. He at least after many years of losing games he might have won do to his pride, he finally started the tactics of zone defence. I’m afraid his pride again will get the better of him and it will take several team’s like this to cause him to change his recruiting tactics to fit his larger sratigy win will helping kids get in the league. He must have older good proven players to instil in the 5 star guys the Kentucky excellence culture Duke is beating him at his own game but they keep guys around to instill work ethic and the winning culture it kills me to have to say it guys the truth.

One last thing last year I lost 15 men from our team’s operations on missions that you’ll never here about that where 21 or younger, so I don’t ever want to here their just kids or there young!!!! Cal needs to each year take his young MEN train with real men there same age he could train with a ranger group that would destroy them and make them realize they aren’t what they has there are for a few days and let’s see who are the real bad asses are! Sorry so long! We need a new stratigy not a change in tactics just like in Afghanistan! Which I’m proud to say we have and its already paying off for us! God bless our troops tonight who are in places you wouldn’t believe!

If you do the MJ math way we shot 40% from the field and PJ only had a 35% chance to make both free throws so there’s an argument here. Still give me the call all day considering we have zero out of bounds plays.
