Indiana student newspaper asks, “Kentucky Who?”

If you picked up a copy of the Indiana Daily Student this afternoon, not only do you need to sit down and re-evaluate your life, but you probably saw the enormous spread dedicated to Indiana’s win over Kentucky on this date, one year ago. The headline of the student newspaper’s dead-horse-beating article asks, “Kentucky Who?”
The answer: The team that ended Indiana’s season and won the NCAA National Championship.
That’s who.
83 Comments for Indiana student newspaper asks, “Kentucky Who?”
Haha! WE ARE IN THEIR HEADS!
I’m glad BBN acts like we’ve been there before. Or been there 8 times before ;). Stupid little whoosiers.
that UK is truly the SuperBowl for all other teams.
IU sucks and will be lucky to make it out of the sweet sixteen this year. Just wait and see.
The students at this college need to get a life! Can they just move on? Why in the WORLD is this one win so important to them, but as you said, “The team that ended Indiana’s season….” Have they forgotten that “little” detail??!! IU stand for IDIOTS UNIVERSITY!!
Obsessed..they are #1 in the country and all they think about is UK
It really is sad.
Considereth thyselves served, wHoosiers. Drew for the win.
LOL, I love this!! Once again, if I were an IU fan, I’d of jumped off a bridge a long long time ago. They need to mandate a class to teach that inept student body that Indiana used to be a decent program. I mean, geez, they are a better program than Louisville and even those hacks don’t act like the IU fans.
Hilarious. Absolutely hilarious.
This is what we all wanted…to be hated again with this kind of intensity by very other program. Instead of the years everyone “loved” our coach so much (tubby). We are truly back! If I were IU I would be beating that dead horse as well. It is what they have. good for them.
the franklin mint is going to issue a uncirculated .999% pure gold coin commemorating the win and is only going to be available on qvc
Just like UNC pretending their loss early last year didn’t matter (it was early! As if our young players weren’t going to make a bigger improvement than their older players). Just like Louisville pretending their athletes were better than ours last year. I know we make fun of players on other teams, but as a whole, I believe we acknowledge when players on other teams are good and when other teams are good. UK is down right now, but will be better, probably a Sweet 16 team, and that will be acceptable to us following a title year and preceding the best recruiting class ever. What will IU have when Zeller leaves, this year, next, or in 2 years? Crean better land another star, because he’s done everything he’s ever done with Wade or Zeller.
You know, I’m not sure, but did we pretend UConn didn’t win the title in 2011 when we played and won last year? No? Did we just play hard and believe we were the best team in the country?
Shouldn’t IU be paying more attention to UL, Duke, Michigan, MSU, and other teams they will be more closely competing with this year?
But seriously, they didn’t dominate us. They won on a last-second 3 that we defended poorly. Then we went on a streak that involved a perfect conference record until the SEC tourney title game, then we won the title, going thru IU. If they’re going to play up that win, they should point out they beat the eventual champion, but that’s hard to do when you lost to them later on.
Anybody know any IU sites like this so I can go troll it
Please let them be a #1 and us their 4, then Duke the 2 in the region. I would love a chance to run through the favorites (OSU, UNC 2 years ago) or our rivals (Indiana, Louisville last year).
The REAL answer to that question is (to IU and Third Street Chicken Hawk fans) is: no matter how good of a team you have, Kentucky is the team you seem to always talk about. That is basically the definition of awesome..
14. I’d say it is alot more likely that IU is a number two season than duke being a #2
@11… I hear the special introductory price is a sweet 16 bucks.
Who? The team you built a shrine to, that’s who.
Short term and selective memory loss are signs you’re a hoosier.
Thanks IU! We (UK) feels like the hot girl and ugly guy went out with one time. How long will they day dream about that one shot in a December game?
Anybody else think they celebrate that shot that won a December nonconference game more than most schools celebrate National Championships?
If Tubby or BCG would have stayed a few more years, we would have been storming the court after beating a number one team. It goes to show you how far Indiana’s once proud program had fallen and UK was on the brink of being that irrelevent.
The IUWonka on twitter called it “one of the greatest moments in college basketball history” this morning lol. You know as rich in tradition throughout history that Indiana is in basketball it shouldnt even be called one of the greatest moments in their programs history, but IU fans will be IU fans.
Kentucky Who? Aawww, bless their little Hoosier hearts to still be thinking of us. Do you think on the date that UK knocked them out of the tournament they’ll be printing the headline: ‘Oh, Those Guys’. With a picture of their saddened faces.
IU you has taken on the mantra of Obama, UL, Tom Jurich Rick Pitino, Pat Forde, Rick Bozich, Eric Crawford, and the rest of media; keep bombarding people with stupidity & what you want them to believe so they don’t pay attention to the truth, and after a while they will start to believe you. The truth is now optional & irrelevant if you can get stupid people to believe you, but even worse follow you.
Can’t wait to crush their dream again!
I think if we were to win 3 titles in a row, IU would still hang on to the buzzer beater. Oh well.
There were only two scenarios that could have happened late in the season that could have nullified IU’s right to brag about their victory over UK. 1. UK beats IU in the NCAA tournament 2. UK wins the national championship. Kentucky did both. Brow down.
Its a natural cycle for most schools, you win, you lose talent, then you reload. Cal spoiled us UK fans a little the last few years, and this season is a bit of a rebuilding year. It happens. Yet we will still make the tourney and contend in the SEC–IN A DOWN SEASON. It just so happens that IU has a good team THIS SEASON, so congratulations to you IU loosiers. But just remember this, WE won a National Championship last year, and next year UK will probably be the best team in the country yet again. And the year after, and the year after. So enjoy your one season of being decent, because you’re at your peak and soon UK will be back on top.
Hoosiers are such idiots. They’re too midwest to be accepted as Yankees, too uncouth to be accepted as Midwesterners,
and too uppity to be Southrons. So they exist on their own little planet of stupid. Who cares?
…apparently KSR cares, who keeps giving IU and UL more publicity than either school could
ever muster on its own.
Hm. *thinking*
Maybe KSR are idiots too. Sad, cause it sure didn’t use to be that way.
All I can figure is they are tryin’ to attract fans from those schools to come
read here and post here. Which, wow, that’s almost as
idiotic as bein’ a Hoosier.
Indiana does these stupid things just to get our goat.
We fall for it. We have the best fans in the nation, but not the smartest.
Again, you guys just don’t get it. It’s not about UK, really, it’s just that game marked a turning point in our program. Any team ranked No. 1 would have done the same thing for us, it just helped that it was UK. We struggled for a long time before that game and it was very difficult. Since then, things have only gotten better. Right now, there are only a few programs that matter and Indiana is one of them, while Uk never left. That’s all it’s really about. It’s all symbolic. You guys should want us good. Things are always better that way.
But it’s a good thing Cal ducked us this year. You guys will be fine, but it would be ugly at this point in the year. Which is OK, because we weren’t competitive for so long. Happens.
I’m flattered that beating us on a last second splash means that much to them. IU fans are at bottom of the barrel and love to forget that we HANDLED them on the way to number 8. I-WHO?!
Whose goat. They don’t have my goat in any fashion. Their behavior says more about them than us. Our reaction, for most, is to shake our heads and laugh in wonderment at the insecure thoughts that go through their heads.
At the 1998 final four, in my hotel room, there was a list that had definitions for Texas lingo and the word Hoosier was on the list. The definition in Texas for a Hoosier is an “unsavory character.” Kind of fits in my mind. BTW, Hoosier and Loser sound a lot alike.
PayPal Cal too scared to play the Hoosiers and Tommy Crean. I can tell you who isn’t scared, Matt Jones when it comes to peeing in butts.
It’s also not so much that IU is anti-Kentucky – this is a contrast in philosophies.
The UK coach makes his living by luring 17-18 year old kids to campus by waving the NBA candy in front of them. He had success his first three years mostly becasue there were some very talented, experienced players returning like Patterson, Liggins, Harrelson, Miller, Harris and others. Now – we’re seeing Cal’s system in it’s pure form – relying almost all on Freshmen – who before November – had rarely played folks older or as big as them. It’s a wake up call for the players and the fans.
At IU – the coach decided to take his time, patiently build a program built around experience. He’s now got the number one team in the land and a top recruiting class to come in and fill the spots of those who leave. Of course – next years team will not rely solely on freshmen – but on the players who have spent one, two and three years learning Crean’s game.
So IU fans have reason to celebrate. The contrast in Philosophies have resulted in IU being No. 1. UK however is 84th in the RPI.
Old school, don’t you get tired of repeating the same old thing again and again? Please come up with some new material.
37) Because the haters all speak like a broken record. They don’t have anything original, so they just repeat the same drivel.
37 and 38 are butt hurt hillbillies
Ok – here’s something orignal:
UK is ranked 84th in RPI.
0-1 against top 50 RPI teams.
1-3 against top 100 RPI teams.
Only four more chances to beat a ranked team before postseason.
Butt-hurt Loosiers got whipped in the Sweet 16 by the Cats who won the national championship! Who, Who, Who, Who Cares…about IU. I’m sure Bobby Knight appreciates the rings, banners, trophies, celebrations and parades IU has been having for their Sweet 16 appearance and eventual loss to UK last season. I’m sure he’s loving how you guys act like you’ve been there before.
Happy Clappy Crean was scared to play UK in Indianapolis and was recently just proved when Cal finally extended the invitation again after loudmouth Vital bitched about it and Crean turned it down, again. Hell, IU probably would have won the game as young as we are right now. But nooo, Cryin’ Crean didn’t get his way of a home and home and took his ball and went home.
Enjoy your #1 ranking idiots. I’m sure once you’re bounced out from the tournament early, you’ll celebrate you’re pre-season #1 ranking with more non-sense. You idiots are worse than UL fans and that’s really saying something.
40. And one of the youngest teams in the country with a PG that’s been sick. See, Cal prepares for March, not November or December like Clappy the Clown.
I am really a closet IU fan who comes on this site masquerading as a UK fan to see what kind of reaction I can get. Also, I have a raging man-crush on Truth, and I would like to be the bologna in a sandwich with him and Tom Crean.
2014 Cats will stomp a mud hole in the Hoosiers if they play each other. There will be no mercy.
I’m a fan of college basketball. Born and bred Big Blue all the way. But integrity demands me to be true to principles. I admire programs like IU.
By the way – have you all checked out the RPI rankings?
Once Cal leaves and the UK administration decides to return to college basketball – I’ll be back win or lose, good years or bad.
44 – This is 2013. Why live in the future?
This site is dedicated more to the past (featuring stats and highlights of NBA players) and to the future (highlight videos, and drooling on 17-year-old kids) than the do the current team.
Of course the current team is just here for 8 months – so it is kind of hard to get attached.
Let’s enjoy te 2012-13 season.
And by the way #44 – on what do you base your optimism for 2013-14 on? These kids who haven’t even attended their senior proms are just now getting fitted for their high school rings.
What if next year’s class plays like freshmen the way this year’s class has? Instead of criticizing players for not meeting unrealistic expectations – how bout a little criticism on Coach Cal for relying so much on 17-18 year-old kids.
IU fans r the most jealous group of people I have ever been around. I live in louisville and some UL fans can talk basketball without the bitterness, IU fans are a different breed of blatant jealously and envy. Your state is boring and you will always look to take shots at the the program that is superior to yours. And you know it. And we know that you know it. good luck this year, enjoy beating up on popcorn state every game, but don’t come bitching when we put you out of the tourney..again. Get used to it.
In the year 2021 Indiana will be celebrating the 10 yr aniversary of the game they won against the magical night when then #1 and eventual national champion Kentucky Wildcats fell to a superior Hoosier team.
8 > 5. Suck it.
Truth, 1987!
confession…I’m actually a closet heterosexual. I know it may shock most of you, but it’s true.
It’s been so long that I’ve actually got to see an attractive female up here in corn country that
I get confused sometimes. I know that ur program is better than ours, but by god if we don’t get
to have back to back sweet 16 rings it will break my heart.
Oldschool 1987!
This from a university that creates Sweet 16 rings. How special!
Old school-rpi can be overrated especially when conferences are overrated. Computers like the big 10, yet the conference has one championship since 1990. Why is that?
Indiana girls have balls as big as their atoms apple. Fact.
what’s the difference in a bucket of shit and a hoosiers fan?
The bucket.
Hysterical. In “old school’s” world, Darius Miller was THE reason we won the title last year. It wasn’t Anthony, MKG, Doron, Terrence, or Teague. It was Miller. Why? Because he was the only non-Calipari recruit, of course.
57 – No – Miller was A reason the Cats won. See – it’s called TEAM. And last year’s team was very solid because of Miller’s four years of experience, as well as Jones and Lamb both being veterans. This year’s team does not have that kind of experience. Next year’s team may not have that either. In fact – we’re seeing Cal’s system in full effect now.
I’m one of the few Cat fats who have not been CAL-rupted – but I’m not alone. There are others who agree with me – and the number of people seeing through Cal is growing. So relish in your 84th ranking with Cal – experience the same next year and the year after – unless Cal can somehow convince the school to water down the schedule even more.
Replace Duke with Ball State, Maryland with Notre Dame with North Dakota and Baylor with Brescia.
Besides – it’s all about getting those young players adjusted.
PLAYERS FIRST – Rappers second, Fans….well – you know you come in somewhere down the line.
Cal has produced an elite 8, final four, and a national championship while holding the #1 ranking a few times during the last three years. Iu hangs their hat on beating UK at home, on last second shot in December, all while getting their best run in the tourney ended by that same Cal-lead UK team. So Iu’s 2 biggest highlights are beating UK when it doesn’t matter and losing to UK when it does?? That’s IT?? Iu has a higher ranking than UK right now, so what? It only matters how good you are in march. All this, and you still say Crean’s system is better than Cals? Even while knowing what Cal has coming in next year??? oldschool, you are either a troll or you are just helpless. Decades is that you?
Hmm an elite 8, final four, then national championship, man I wished Cal’s system worked I wanna win again 🙁
Everyone was touting this year’s recruiting class as well. People were talking about hanging #9 and how “sick” this team was gonna be. Well – I’d say there’s some illness to this team – it’s called youth. But Cal wants youth – he strives on youth but he doesn’t thrive on youth.
His first three teams survived because there were experienced veterans to help out. They’re gone now. Cal is left with young team, a shallow bench (only 8 scholarship players) and a bench he is either unwilling or unable to develop. (How does Hood only get one minute against Portland, four minutes against Samford, and 0 minutes in other blowout wins?) Polson only got four minutes against Portland, although it’s obvious this team may have to rely on him for some serious minutes at poitns in the season.
Welcome to Indiana signs are being changed as we spreak.
They will now read:
Welcome to Indiana,
On 12/10/2011 the University of Indiana basketball team beat the #1 team in the nation, The University of Kentucky
The Indiana highway dept. has said these signs will remain in place until the year 2111 which may be the next time a victory by IU may happen.
seriously old school? You are obviously an IU fan considering the stance of
your argument. I’m beginning to think you might actually be RMK. I realize Cal’s
method of success goes against everything you believe in, and this is the first
opportunity you have had to criticize this, but honestly, what are you going to say
next year when wiggins and the Harrison twins hang another banner with
an all freshman starting line up?
Old school has old saggy balls and no brains..id be pissed too
Who won the last game between IU & UK? The Watford shot will never eclipse THE Laettner shot.
I know it was a watershed moment for IU fans who toiled in obscurity since Bobby left the building. But you have a coach has a hard time winning the big game. Yes he’s won big against the Cats twice, once with an NBA All Star in his breakout game against a solid defender on one leg, and once on a buzzer beater in your place against the 7th youngest team in college basketball in their first road test of their careers. What else has he done????
Yes, we have lost to Tom Crean before and yes we lost to IU one year ago today.
But who won when it mattered most?
Oh yeah. The RPI in December doesn’t help you win in March. It only tells you who you’ll play.
You know what I’m starting to agree with oldschool, he should do more for fans maybe stream a couple practices, or take a cross state trip with the national championship trophy and take pictures with us fans, maybe even have some type of all access show showing us what you guys really do, players first, rappers second, fans somewhere down the line
hey “oldschool/troll”, if Cal benefited from all the left over players from Gillespie and now his teams will never be good again, how do you explain his success at Memphis, including nearly winning a championship with Rose. Were all the left over “experienced” players helping him then? That’s what I thought. I thought they banned you did you find a new public library computer to sit at?
I won’t get too worked up about this because it is a student newspaper, and they don’t know any better.
That being said … the part that makes it the worse is INDIANA HAS 5 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS. Act like you been there. I realize every normal aged undergraduate at IU WASN’T EVEN BORN when the Hoosiers last won a title in 1987, but you have to know your team has a tradition and pride. You should expect to win games and be No. 1.
Why would they ban me. I’ve never been obscene or profane. Is there a term of use I’ve violated.
Old school, you seriously come across as a psychopath.
I’m not even trying to be funny
70. Cal’s entire starting lineup has never left before. That has never happened in the history of this sport. He always had someone left over. He probably expected to have Teague left over this year. Next year, he will have someone left over, probably a few. WCS, Wiltjer, and maybe someone else if they don’t improve enough quickly. And most likely the year after that, since the draft will probably be so stacked a guy might want to stay to work on a higher stock.
Crean’s system ensures a good year every 3 years roughly. He gets moderate talent and waits for it to develop and then they are gone and he has guys who have fewer minutes and less raw talent as his experienced players. Those top recruiting classes aren’t going to be content with giving up PT to older guys just because of age and being forced to wait for development. They will want Zeller’s route. Therefore, Crean’s method of replacement won’t work as well as he thinks it will. He will have to be content with 3-4 star players only with maybe one great guy every few years, once guys see how long it takes them to reach their dream. And that one guy will develop and leave.
UK, on the other hand, tends to have a good March every year. This year is probably Sweet 16, but that is just fine coming off #8. A couple guys will stay and it will be business as usual next year. This is just one of those years with a particular group of guys with really thick skulls. And they will be used as an example next year.
And I don’t see what is wrong with appealing to what the recruits like. They like rap music, even the 3-star Ky boys. They want to be millionaires, not stay and get useless degrees in Communications or University Studies. Take off the rose tinted glasses and realize most college athletes don’t get a degree in anything terribly difficult, especially if they are good. They have to keep a certain GPA, after all, and Organic Chemistry is difficult, I hear.
What do you expect from that obscure place called Bloomington ? Let them have their moment before they sink back into mediocrity. I see a big flame out coming in March by the Hoosiers.
Talk about owning a fan base. In the middle of their first chance at a title in decades and they still would rather root against us more than for their own team. Sad little Hoosiers.
The problem w iu fans is if somebody doesn’t do things the way they do they think it’s wrong and there must be something to it…if anyone wins besides them it’s cheating. They are so desperate to be accepted by UK and the irony among their program is laughable, they push assumptions as fact and now they think bc UK is struggling for 1 yr that cal is some kind of flash in the pan. Their venom and hate for a rivalry that is only a rivalry to them is pathetic.
1987 is a long time ago Hoosier losers. You have been irrelevant so long that it is not funny! Your program is pathetic & your UK envy is equally pathetic. You lost the last meeting by 12 points! UK went on to win the title at your expense!
That’s ok. We get the same treatment from the Purdue and Illanoy fans too. Would you like the Boilers on your schedule? We’ll trade you for UofL.
Here’s the thing: we know exactly how it felt to IU fans to win that game last year. Your storied program was crap for a few years, at times it looked like it would exist in mediocrity for a long time, and then all of a sudden you’re on top of the world. For us it was December 5, 2009: John Wall and Co. put on a display against UNC in the first half that we hadn’t seen the likes of since ’96. UK was back. It’s an amazing feeling and IU should feel great about it. BUT!!! Don’t hang on that one game! You’re back! Look forward to the next game, and the tournament, and next year. And sure as sh1t don’t commemorate the game with a headline denigrating the team that knocked you out of the tournament and won the freaking championship by asking “Kentucky WHO?” in 48-point font. You’ve got 5 titles and you’re acting like you’re I-AA.
IU is for real sucks but true living in Evansville I have to gulp it all the time even a billboard saying be there for the next big shot not hating on them we sure had fun last year . But sorry there would be no way IU would beat Kentucky at Rupp I’m sure are boys would be up for that game plus the noise in that place would have been unreal ! As always go CATS
How sad it is that the only way IU can feel good is to conjure a one year old regular season win over the National Champion Wildcats. Is that the only way they can get mentioned in the media too? Yes….at the time it was noteworthy…..but, seriously, if that’s all they have to crow about..well, enough said.
The moderation of posts is getting out of hand. What was wrong with my last comment, the phrase “inane ramblings” or “don’t feed the trolls”? No cursing, no profanities, nothing. All I was trying to do was let my fellow loyal KSR readers know that they should ignore oldschool and his ilk, all responding does is open the door for more of their ridiculousness. I’d say that’s pretty helpful commentary.
I wish we were playing Indiana this year at home so we can beat their ass!!! Who’s your daddy, Hoosiers??? The team that knocked your ass outta the tourney last year..the 8x National Champion…Kentucky Wildcats!!!
