Indiana has too many players
“Hey kid, we don’t need you anymore. Thanks for playing.”
It appears Indiana has been spending too much time worrying about why Kentucky won’t play in Bloomington instead of counting how many guys will be on the team next season. According to Matt Norlander, who has the sweetest jumper out of the CBSSports.com crew, Indiana has 13 scholarships for 15 guys on the current roster. Clearly, two people are going to get cut, and one of them will most likely be fifth-year senior Matt Roth. It won’t be easy letting Roth go, however; he stuck it out through the ugly years before Crean’s hire and has been the ideal teammate for the Hoosiers during his time in Bloomington.
Of course, two guys could always give up their scholarships to voluntarily pay for school to stay with the team, but regardless of how it pans out, the blame goes on Tom Crean for oversigning for next season.
I can’t even imagine the wrath Calipari would feel if he ran off a fifth-year senior to make room for incoming talent.

We do things #TheRightWay
This was just Crean’s misinterpretation of what Calipari means when he says a “players first” progam. The more players you have, the better. 😉
Peter Jurkin might get whacked!
That is all…hahaha, such a telling post.
I think we should pick up Roth, he is a dead-eye shooter, one of the best in the nation. We could use him like the 98 team used Mills. If we have a scholarship just sitting there, we might as well.
I hope Brian Long looks at this story and appreciates what he has.
Kevin Galloway, A.J. Stewart and Landon Slone say hello…
Kids should not be held responsible (losing their scholarship)because the coach signs too many kids. If that happens the coach should have to pay for the cost of the kids who would be effected to remain in school. Its unreal that coaches could sign as many kids as they want and then cut other kids who were already there to make room for the incoming kids. Not very ethical in my opinion. Glad we are not playing this bunch of unsavory characters.
…but you’re right, I’m sure Tom Crean had no idea how many players were gonna be on his team next season. If all y’all wanna talk about is how irrelevant IU basketball is, why are we still talking about them? Are they on the schedule? Next!
I suggest not critizing Crean, or Indiana. I makes them almost relavant.
If someone is willing to give up the scholarship – maybe in an in-state student – then fine. But forcing kids out is only OK when a new coach comes in the first season. After that, you should manage your scholarship situation and do the right thing.
#8 – your solution would encourage oversigning. You think Crean can’t afford a few tuitions? Not a real solution.
You’re right, Drew. Cal would never run a player out to make room for incoming talent. http://vaughtsviews.com/?p=2408
#7, you beat me to it. This is an unfair practice, regardless if it is Crean or Calipari doing it. The guys should be allowed to keep their scholarship. If they are recruited over and ok with riding pine, that is their prerogative. They would be penalized if they left the school so they should not be penalized by the school for wanting to stay.
7 makes a good poing that Calipari didn’t do right by some of the upperclassmen that he inherited when he came to UK. Galloway had a lot of promise and I’m certain Cal could have made him a player. Stewart was just undertalented, but he was a good kid and a real personality. Hated to see him go, though he was clearly in over his head at UK.
Getting rid of guys your first year on the job is TOTALLY different than doing it in your 3rd or 4th year and/or you recruited the kid. Those that don’t see the difference are clueless.
14. And no, 7 didn’t make a good point. In fact, it was terrible and you agreeing with it is worse.
#7 – There is a big difference between telling a kid their playing time is not going to be there and telling them their scholarship is not going to be there. (I may be wrong, but I think Slone was a preferred walk-on already so he is not in any way similar to the IU situation)… AJ and KG both still had their scholarships available, but chose to leave because they were told they would get to play. They did not have scholarships pulled. At no point has Cal had more scholarship players signed than available scholarships… There should be repercussions pon the program for that.
Cal ran players off.
This may happen next year with UK depending on how things play out after the 2012-2013 season…
Isnt Pitino doing the same thing to Shropshire?
lol… i like the transition from comment 17 to comment 18……
17: “Valid point, Valid point, followed by Valid point, and Valid point…”
18: “Im severely uninformed, but choose to comment anyway. With less words.”
The ability to count is not a requirement to be the coach at Indiana.
1) Roth has TWO degrees (undergrad and masters) which is two more than any player in the Calipari era.
2) Calipari ran off an entire team when he came to UK. I forgot, UK fans do not care about players graduating because the entire fan base didn’t graduate from college.
3) I love KSR’s continued infatuation with all things IU. HOO HOO HOO HOOSIERS
#vac8
wait, are you saying you can’t get a scholarship for peter jurkin at IU?
Man uk fans r stupid
As long a it gets wins for uk you’re cool with it but someone else does it shame shame
Jb hall pitino cal they all did the same thing
Morons who f’ing cares about iu
Is this Indiana sports radio now Matt ???
Any uk news?? Just looking at the line up n it’s thin…..
…and just like every IU fan, HOO HOO has no idea what he’s talking about.
WHO WHO WHOOPS
Some of you have a problem discerning between “running off” your own players vs. somebody else’s. It’s not the same thing. In fact, you might say they’re quite different.
23) Infatuation? You’re on here constantly, clownpants.
I guess 28 thinks there is a diff between goat lovin n donkey lovin
Whereas everyone else agrees they’re both wrong
Why do we give an F about what IU is doing, who cares !! Up until this year, they were totally irrelevant. Players get run off all the time; there is no loyalty, it is about what have you done for me lately. If you aren’t good enough, can’t contribute, are dead weight or if the numbers don’t add up you’re out.
30) I spoke w/ the goat & the donkey & they both said you were two inches.
HOO HOO ….guess how many times I’ve been on a IU website????
ZERO!!!!!!!!!!!
I guess Coach Cream though Zeller and Watford would go pro – but they aren’t good enough.
I will guess that somehow Tom Crean will blame KY for this happening, he is turning to another Booby Knight. #24 – you know Peter Jurkin pays for itself at IU, that keeps the hungry IU women feed.
31) yeah kinda like jorts before he got run off the team… oh wait.
1) Roth has TWO degrees (undergrad and masters) which is two more than any player in the Calipari era.

Hey Hoo Hoo, while you’re trumpeting college degrees, which ‘degree’ did your boy Jordan Hulls earn? That’s right, a Bachelor’s in ‘Fitness’!?!?! Hysterical. What’s his Master’s going to be in, ‘Walking’?
I love the fact that little Hoo Hoo has finally came out of the basement of his granny’s cornbread house. Hell I was afraid he might had jumped off the highest cliff in Indiana since we waxed those pretenders about a month ago……wait that would only be 3 feet high. How ya doin’ little fella? Still got the meth lab going? Hows your sex life with the new sheep granny got ya? I’m happy you got out of the depression stage, now if you could just work a little harder with reality you’ll be just fine little buddy!
Remember Jared Carter? That already happened Drew.
Hoo hoo is a hoosier term. Similar to a “boo boo”, only a “hoo hoo” specifically refers to butt hurt.
Saban has been doing this successfully for years. It is part of the game. 1 year contracts.
IU is a wasteland just like the the meth capital of the world-Indiana. Those clowns are so butt hurt that UK owns their pathetic sports programs they are irrational. Between them getting off probation for cheating and UK ruling college basketball, they are bitter fools.
32 Wins
The coach can’t count and neither can the the players. They could put six players on the court and couldn’t beat UK.
So now Indiana won’t play Louisville either. …the plot thickens.
THANKS FOR THE PUBLICITY
GO HOOSIERS
UK FANS LOVE THE HOOSIERS. IT’S SAD BECAUSE CAL IS SOOOOO SCARED TO PLAY US
#47 – Indiana ended the series, numbnuts.
Hoo hoo is so funny… he/she/it has no idea how sad he/she/it makes the IU fans look. I mean really, they only post on here so their comments will get read. If they post on IU websites (do they have one? who cares?) he/she/it knows their comments are lost in cyberspace to be forgotten forever. At least when they post on here they get a response or two. How sad is that? boo hoo, hoo hoo. what a dork…poor hoo hoo needs to find some dork buddies so they can reply to each other. problem solved.
so you have 2 guys that wind up with no scholarship or multiple guys with partial scholarship…not really a big deal, especially if you look at others sports such as baseball where just about every senior no longer has a scholarship by the start of their fourth year…I can’t stand IU, but its not like all 15 guys will play so you can cut some scholarships with the lesser talented ppl
I guess that pic of Darius and Eloy in caps and gowns with a diploma was photoshopped, right, Hoosiers?
