Imani Cross picks the Cornhuskers

The four-star running back was down to two schools, Nebraska and Kentucky, and the Cornhuskers won out. UK made an in-home visit last night but it wasn’t enough to reel him in.

Back to the drawing board. Again.

the football coverage here is just spectacular. bravo, guys. was this kid’s recruitment even mentioned before he picked Nebraska? you all ask the basketball fans to be less negative, then post shit like this. embarrassing.

Yeah, you guys might want to know the whole story. Cross is a very “Spiritual” kid, and wants to go into the ministry after football. the running backs coach for Nebraska is also a minister, so those two connected very well. we do have a late visitor from Cinci that is a 4 star wide receiver visiting this weekend, so that is some positive news!!

#6 – Crosses’recruitment was mentioned on this site several times, and on the KSR radio shows, in a positve light (as is a good chance of landing him). However, this is typical of UK football, close sometimes but can’t finish the deal. The Basketball fans that are negative lack credibility – # 1 in the country and 20-1! That’s just silly.

Who cares about Kentucky football? We’ll have an average season every once in a while, a good one even less, and shitty ones all the time. We’ll never compete in the SEC so deal with it. We’re a pucnhing bag and if they up the requirement for bowl eligibility to 7 games, we are totally effed.

It’s pathetic when you give a kid from the South the opportunity to play in the south or play in Nebraska and he chooses Nebraska over playing in the South. This is just another sign that Joker can not take this program where it needs to go. You have to, have to, have to get kids like this to build a program. However, I would be willing this kid transfers within 2 years.

Hey could play in the south-at UK- and be hit in the backfield for 4 years or go to Nebraska and have a chance to run and be a star. I love UK football, but I can’t blame the kid for thinking of his health and future

Until the University makes a commitment to the football program like they have/DO the basketball program, Hind Tit is always gonna be it. Joker’s probably a fine dude, but he’s NEVER gonna REEL in the REAL talent.
And he’s always gonna struggle winning because of it. It’s the SEC for God’s sake.
UK…. put up or shut up.

We do have some depth at the RB spot and a solid recruit already on board, but you hate to lose a big back like this. Joker and staff are not very good closers. They almost always lose out on a kid that has some legit offers and is choosing a school at the 11th hour.

  26. Tyrannosaur
    9:26 am January 27, 2012 Permalink

Come on guys, the sky isn’t falling because we didn’t land this kid. This past year ranged from depressing to maddenning, no question. But we do have a potentially great QB coming in, so there is reason to be at least optimistic.

I am not defending the lack of creativity on offense or saying it hasn’t been tough to watch them, but this is the pivotal year for Joker. Lets see if Towles can be what everyone thinks he can be, lets see how the offense is with an above-average signal-caller, and lets at least try to be positive. Those that complain about Joker while knowing he’s our coach at least for another year are defeating their own purpose.

#22 – ever hear of Randall Cobb or Stevie Johnson or Tim Mastay or Myron Pryor or Corey Peters or Wesley Woodyard? and I know there are plenty of others. Next year Danny Travathon and Winston Guy will be playing in the NFL.
Help me out, who are the greatest UK football players to ever play in the NFL. I would think George Blanda and Art Still would be on that list, and my man, Mr. Cobb.

I’m always as surprised when a football recruit picks us as when a basketball recruit doesn’t. I get tired of people blaming the fans of UK football. They are a frustrated fan base without hope for the present or future. They’ve been sitting in those seats for years wondering if they are insane for hoping for different results.

Great choice by this kid! Only a fool would choose Kentucky football over Nebraska. I support the UK football team knowing full well, we suck, have less talent and will more than likely lose to whoever we are playing! UK football currently is like watching a bus slowly roll down a hill, the people on the bus are jumping off and Joker tries to save the bus by slamming on the gas! CRASH AND BURN I’m sure Joker will be fired soon, but will that really help in the grand scheme of things??

  41. Josh

#37. NO we would not like UK to get recruits over MTSU. Only a UK football supporter would look at this scenario and think its an improvement from years past. YAY we lost a recruit to an actual contender!! UK football is ridiculous.

Rich Brooks himself said: This football program as a whole, will not grab 4 star guys like this and have any major success until they start investing back into the program. The University of Kentucky has an extremely profitable athletics program. (7th in the nation?) We all know about our premier basketball facilities/amenities/staff salaries etc, and all that is a direct result of the Universities focus/investments. Mitch Barnhart, and others need to realign the focus of University of Kentucky, and realize what they want. Then a major focus/investment into the football program needs to happen. What does Coach Cal make versus Joker Phillips? Enough said.

45)so you think the premier coach in america who wins at every program he has been at should be paid the same as some clown with zero head coaching experience? Enough said.

  47. bluesince66
    11:39 am January 27, 2012 Permalink

The truth is while I think Joker deserved the chance to be head coach, it should be obvious he is in over his head, Spoke to one of the players and Joker divided the locker room last year not allowing Mossakowski to compete for the qb job. If Newton had not gotten hurt we would have never seen Max Smith. Like many have said football is the real cash cow for athletics and should be treated as such.
