Kentucky Sports Radio

University of Kentucky Basketball, Football, and Recruiting news brought to you in the most ridiculous manner possible.

If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all.

Leave it to Bob Knight to take an ordinary chair and fill it with story and drama.

Yesterday, USA Today let the cat out of the bag nationwide for something we had suspected through the weekend: Bobby Knight will in fact call two Kentucky games this season.  Thankfully for everyone, neither of those games will be at Rupp.  Personally, I’m excited for it, in the same way that I’m excited for all the horribly awkward moments on The Office that end up being hysterical because of the obvious discomfort of all those involved.

However, if any Kentucky fan is upset (and there’s good reason to be), I can almost guarantee that they’re not as upset about this as, well… Bobby Knight.  The guy wouldn’t even say “Kentucky” last season, and now has to say it at least three times in forty minutes.  Twice.  Not only that, but should Kentucky win whatever game he’s calling (which they’ll likely be favored to), (man-)Booby will have to find some way to at least try to sound nice.

So, I’ve compiled a top-ten list of the most likely backhanded compliments we’ll hear from the General during the course of his time with the Wildcats this season.  If you think of some, leave them in the comments and I’ll update the list with the best ones as the day goes on.

Ten Backhanded Compliments from Bobby Knight:

1) Cal’s got some pretty good reasons to be so narcissistic.

2) You know, he’s really done well for someone with his coaching ability.

3) That Kyle Wiltjer is a lot better than he looks.

4) This team makes a convincing argument for a sweeping overhaul of our post-high school education system.  Good for them.

5) I could really see Alex Poythress coming into his own someday

6) These players are more “street smart” sort of kids.

7) I cannot believe how lucky this team is.

8) I like Nerlens Noel’s flat top. It really slims his face.

9) Harrow can jump pretty well for a guy his size.

10) At least the folks in Kentucky have basketball to look forward to.

Update:

RealCatsFan: “For a group of kids who don’t attend class together, Calipari really has them playing as a team…”

Back Handed Compliment: ““What your seeing is how easy it shoot dunk shoots. If Kentucky starts shooting jump-shots they obviously are going to score this many points”

Blue Notes: “When my national championship Indiana team went undefeated in 1976, we played a tough Missouri team like this one.”

2 – Amen to that. Not funny at all. Besides, biggest news was overlooked by young Nichols. That Marcus Lee appears to be on the verge of committing to the Cats after his BBM visit.

Cory let the haters hate good article. Bob Knight calling UK games will be news all year. Also agree with #1

I give Corey a pat on the back for coming up with an interesting topic.

“Kentucky dominated play and earned this win, now let’s see if it is still a win in 5 years.”

That Poythress kid looks like he could really hurl a chair a long way…

That Noel kid looks like he could take a whippin’…

For a group of kids who don’t attend class together, Calipari really has them playing as a team…

BTW – you guys here at KSR are free to use my Bobby Knight horse’s arse photoshop masterpiece any time you want. It still comes up as the top image on Google for those search terms. Proud moment. 😀

You think Bobby Knight commenting on TWO UK games will be news all year? With who? Maybe Cat fans. But in the total scheme of a national college basketball season, its not even a blip on the screen.

It is a local issue. And not an important one at that.

Aside from him hating UK, this guy sucks at a commentator. I watched a game where all he did for 15 minutes was try to predict if a shot was going in. Hey Bobby, we can all tell when a shot was a good or bad shot.

    * You have to give Billy Gillispie credit for laying the groundwork of their recent success.

    * When my national championship Indiana team went undefeated in 1976, we played a tough Missouri team like this one.

    * Even when a star player struggles, you’ve got to treat them like they’re your own son.

    * When you go on the road in the SEC, its like going to Bloomington. You can get beat on a last second shot, even when you’re the number one ranked team in the country, and have it replayed on ESPN for the rest of the year. So you want to stay focused.

imagine how good this team would be if they actually liked college & came back for another year.

can you believe this is a team full of kids who were skipping the SATs just 6 months ago?

there’s no way i’d be able to get all these kids to stop worrying about academics & play so well together in such short time.

I was going to say that Missouri was the best team this side of Kansas, but then they left the Big 12 for this conference, so I’m just going to sit here and watch this travesty until it’s over. That other team from the SEC appears to be on the floor, too.

I know those accomplishments were satisfying for myself as a Coach”
