If UK were an “Arrested Development” character…

secad.0_standard_709.0

Earlier this week, I shared my love for “Arrested Development,” one of TV’s most underrated comedies that will return with new episodes Sunday on Netflix. All week, pop culture blogs have been full of posts heralding the show’s return, and now, a South Carolina sports site has even gotten in on the fun, assigning an “Arrested Development” character to each SEC football team. Who would UK be?

UK

Kentucky: Maeby Funkë

Occasionally able to deceive onlookers into thinking they’re more valuable than they are. Identifies with Vanderbilt, as both go largely ignored. Practices form of rebellion by being basketball school.

Obviously the Gamecocks are still a little bitter about losing Drew Barker to us, but I’ll give the site credit: some of their picks are spot on. I especially like Arkansas as Lucille Austero.

For the three people that actually watch that show, they may or may not have enjoyed that.

@1 – Go to sleep if bored. What’s a writer to do while waiting for Za’Daris, Julius, and everybody else to show for summer class? The main events are coming up soon. Grab some popcorn while you’re waiting, it’s good for you, If you ask nicely, Tyler will recommend her favorites.

I’ve never watched the show, but judging by the description, I’d say pretty spot on.

That article is spot on! I’m glad others are as excited as I am about the new season. (Side note: “If” indicates the subjunctive tense; thus, the title should read “If UK were an…” Regardless, you’re the best writer on this site!)

I hear Drew and Matt are going to do a pod cast with Charles Manson next. He actually has more integrity than Eric C. Conn.

Tobias Funke, if you are an example of the kind of people that watch this show, then it doesn’t stand a chance.

@12: I’m definitely not a representation of the show’s audience. To anyone who’s recently thought, “Man, these comedies nowadays — with their overdone jokes, simple/boring plots, and excessive laugh-tracks (i.e. Two & Half Men, Big Bang, etc.)– aren’t funny” I’d recommend at least giving Arrested Development a chance.

One of the greatest comedies of our time. I don’t expect the bright minds of those who enjoy shows like Duck Dynasty to appreciate it.

AD not popular with UK’s fanbase? Well, of course the BBN aside from its fervor for our basketball team tends to be rather lame. In any event, I can’t argue at all with UK football being Maebe, but we’re on track to move up to Steve Holt status soon. Mark Stoops!

    12. “Doesn’t stand a chance?” Arrested Development is the first show in history to come back years after it was cancelled.

Oh, and this is a fantastic post. Thank you. Much of this site is pure tripe, so it’s great to see that at least one of the writers here has great taste.

    18. That is only because Netflix is trying to convince people that they are more than just a new-age Blockbuster.
