If a One Seed is the Goal; the Next Two are a Must

A little over three months ago, the Big Blue Nation was in shambles. Although not mad, they were disappointed after the football team fell to Georgia in a game that would have sent them to the SEC Championship.

Then just a few days later, the basketball team was run off the floor in a game against Duke before the football team was embarrassed against Tennessee.

That brings us to today. If you ask me, I barely remember the Duke game. I have moved on from the feelings of that week and instead am feeling the same level excitement that I felt after the Bahamas.

After falling in their first SEC game of the season, the Cats have rolled through the conference and are winners of 9 straight. This week brings the first place and team tied for second into Rupp Arena for two huge games.

The dreams of a one seed were thought to be gone after the Seton Hall and Alabama loss, but now they are starting to become an actual possibility. This is the only time they are scheduled to play LSU. A win gives them a top 25 win against a really good team.

Then on Saturday, #1 Tennessee comes to Lexington for another huge game. If Kentucky can come out on top in both games, they could find themselves ranked as high as #2 in the country and as a #1 seed.

By sweeping these two games, it will also allow for another loss to happen to a good SEC team and it not affect seeding that much. For example, if they lose in Knoxville or lose to a quality team in the SEC tournament, these two wins would easily offset either one.

LSU and Tennessee are the two most important games on the schedule. Simply put, because they are the next two games, but when you look at the bigger picture, they could help open a path to being a #1 seed in Louisville. If that happens? I’ll take this team against anybody in the country.

I watched every second of the uva/dook game both times this season. Dook is very, very good. But…1) Tennessee I think is better and if I was them, I’d be PISSED if dook jumped us, and 2) uva is once again the absolute most overrated team in the country. Gonzaga is legit, albeit they play a very weak schedule. Dook is dook, we know how good they are. UT is impressive in every facet of the game and though they don’t have Zion or Barret, they do have experience and I’d put Admiral, Williams, and Bone above dook’s 3 any day of the week if we are focusing solely on college team b-ball. But Virginia is way too overhyped. Dook shot lights out last night, sure, but if uva is even 25% as good as ESPN and others make them sound, they would’ve won the game last night.

Duke is no doubt #1. UK is good and they smoked em by 30+

Bigol idiot, that was essentially an entirely different season. One could easily argue dook hasn’t gotten any better than they were that night, and even a troll like you knows we have gotten exponentially better. Idk if we could beat duke 3 out of every 5 games, but I’d bet my life we could beat them in a one game scenario, which is at worst what we’d have to do. Either way, I’m even more confident with saying dook couldn’t beat us by 30 again

I think you’re 7 days early with that prediction. UT should have to lose in order to fall out of the number 1 ranking that they have held for so long.

UT should have to lose to fall, and I agree they should be #1 based on logic. But Duke is unfortunately better

Not saying dUKe is not really good but go take a look at the free throw shooting difference. VA hit 5 of 7 while dUKe hit 16 of 23, that’s what scares me most about playing dUKe.

IMHO, as long as Gonzaga and Tennessee are ranked higher, the Cats own their seeding destiny. I can see a scenario in which, if the Cats win out except for at Rocky Top, UK and UT go into the SEC title game on selection Sunday with only two things to play for – the SEC tournament title and region. They would both have top seeds locked up. My guess is that the winner gets to play in Louisville and UVA lined up for the national semifinals – assuming that the other one seeds hold. Louisville is the closest first round location for UT, too. Columbus, OH wouldn’t be too bad for BBN and Columbia, SC wouldn’t be too bad for UT.

One seed two seed ten seed. saint Louis Louisville the polar ice cap it doesn’t matter. after last year’s k state embarrassing loss and the way cal handled the Jared Vanderbilt situation. I have no confidence in him ever winning another title he’s only about his and his players own agenda he can certainly prove me wrong by winning the conference reg season and tournament tittle along with the national title this year but I don’t see that happening but I guess stranger things have happened we shall see.

You sir, should just go fly a kite, find a new hobby, or do SOMETHING! You certainly aren’t a UK fan and if you are, do you remember pre Cal days?? You are embarrassing if you call yourself a UK basketball fan. Get off these boards with your negative s**t

I sure do remember the pre cal days. when the goose got loose in that 78 championship game against Duke . players like derick hord dickie Beal Winston Bennett. Macy Mercer Anderson mashburn the unforgettables. the bayou comeback against LSU. beating Arkansas in a late comeback in the sec tittle game. the comeback cats in that 98 championship game in San Antonio against utah . prince bogans Marquis estill . you no all them players and teams that played for the program and the Fan’s and coaches that was in touch with the fanbase. not putting their own agenda and players agenda always first. so I don’t need another hobby or new team. just a coach that not so much self centered around his and players agenda.

The game has evolved A LOT since 78… 41 years ago. 96…23 years ago, 98…21 years ago. I did love having 4 year players but most of the blue bloods don’t keep players 4 years anymore. I would rather have Calipari than any coach since Joe B

And I don’t nessary mean we need four year players either sometimes the best players are only going to be around a year or two but while there here they need to give it there all to the fans and program then if there able to move on great that wall and cousin team monk and fox the 2012 championship team is good example of that but last year’s team and at times this year’s team is all about themselves and cal goes along with it

Gonzaga shouldnt be a 1 seed. they literally have 0 though games in 2019. how can u give a team that’ll end up with 2-3 2019 losses (one on Jan 3) w/ KYs schedule a 2 and Gonzaga a 1

Uk doesn’t have the overall talent that Duke has. The blue devils have 3 of the possible top 5 picks while Uk has a 1 possible top ten and 1 late first rounder in PJ even tho PJ is the better player than KJ. Uk got blown out by 34 for a reason. A rematch would be much closer I think but if Duke is making shots the cats don’t stand a chance.
