With the NFL lockout seemingly coming to a close, we can all breathe a sigh of relief as we won’t have to miss a single Randall Cobb game in his rookie endeavor. But just how good could his rookie year be? There’s no telling with Cobb and the Packers, but it’s a good sign that he’s already a candidate on Bodog (an online gambling/entertainment site) for NFL Offensive Rookie of the year. Cobb’s odds are 20/1, considerably behind the leaders of the pack and fellow former SECers Julio Jones (5/1) Cam Newton (11/2) AJ Green (6/1) and Mark Ingram (6/1.)
Cobb goes into Green Bay as receiver 4 at best – but unlike those ahead of him, he is young and not a free agent. Not to mention, Cobb was put in a great position receiving passes from Super Bowl MVP Aaron Rodgers, whereas most other incoming offensive players will face having to carry their teams. It really comes down to how much and where Green Bay decides to use Cobb, but if you told me he would be the NFL ORotY this time next year, I certainly wouldn’t be surprised.
