Kentucky Sports Radio

University of Kentucky Basketball, Football, and Recruiting news brought to you in the most ridiculous manner possible.

I thought we were supposed to be small this year?

Heights and weights all can easily be skewed, but you can’t photoshop this (OK maybe you could make Nerlens’ Flat Top Taller). Anthony Davis was in town and Cal decided that we should be able to do some compare and contrast our new big guys, with our old one. If Wiltjer could actually jump, we might have a chance to fight for the NCAA record of blocks by a team in a season.

Next picture I want to see: comparing their feet. No I don’t have a foot fetish, but if I wear a size 13 then Nerlens must need a 20 something.

WCS is a giant. He’s more than full inch taller than Noel.

Take the flat top off and it’s not even close. Damn. And both are bigger than Davis.

#7 At least Kentucky fans have something to look forward to…Louisville looks forward to what? Another Belk Bowl? Taking yet another backseat to Calipari? Another Pitino scandal? Mike Marra’s next tattoo? No, seriously, what?

Wow, Willie Cauley-Stein > (Nerlens Noel + Flat top).

Also Wiltjer can block shots, he had 4th most on the team last season in limited minutes.

Yeah, we have good size. With Wiltjer around 6’9″, Noel 6’10” or 6’11”, and Willie Cauley-Stein 6’11” or 7′, we will have three good sized people, all probably with decent wingspans, too. Also, don’t forget Alex Poythress, who is a small forward around 6’7″ or 6’8″.

    10) Julius is also kind of small, I think around 6’2″? But yeah, we do have a good size line-up I think. Goodwin is around 6’5″ I think.

Cauley-Stein has to be 7’1″ in shoes. AD measures 6’9″ and 1/4 without shoes, and Noel has consistently been listed at 6’10” without shoes every time he’s been measured (which looks exactly right in this picture, as he appears to be slightly taller than Davis- although the hair makes it tough to tell for sure). Cauley-Stein is clearly at least an inch to 2 inches taller.

As mouth-watering as Cauley-Stein’s physical gifts and potential are, I hope people don’t get unreasonable with their expectations. He has a lot to learn about actually playing the game. There were reasons that he wasn’t in anyone’s top 25 for the 2012 class, and if you watched any video of him in HS, he was not as explosive and dominant as you would expect. That might simply be because of a lack of experience (being uncertain about what you’re doing on the court is always going to slow you down some). If he learns the game and learns to utilize all that speed and length, then watch out- but that might take a while.

AD’s arms are longer than any of the newcomer’s, probably why he was abel to block the 3 so well, doesn’t matter we are gonna be a BEAST this year too!!!

I’ve never really understood the fascination with height. It’s all about the reach. In that picture, Davis’ arms look like they start a couple of inches lower than Noel’s, but his hands are 5 inches are so farther down. So, I think he has a longer reach.

17: Actually gals, it’s the size of the hands that’s a better indicator. From the picture, WCS and AD have it, hands down. Noel and KWilt handing away a few inches. And, returning to basketball for a moment, bigger hands are definitely an asset in playing the game, though not for shooting free throws. AD was the exception with free throw shooting, but then he was just a freak- shooting guard in a post player’s body. There may never be another like him.

    7) We never stop talking about basketball. We just also talk about football some. See, we can do more than 1 thing at a time, unlike the typical recruits to UNC, UT, and UL.
