Hilltoppers Getting Cheeky

Kentucky should already have enough motivation to come out in their August 31st match up against Western Kentucky chock full of anger and set on revenge from the embarrassment of last year’s game against the Hilltoppers, but if they still need some ammo, just check out WKU’s fan message board on

Many Topper fans are rolling their eyes at the excitement surrounding the UK football program nowadays saying Cats fans have “asinine beliefs” towards football recruiting and that we shall be the “exact same team as last year”. Most all Topper fans picked Western to win the game that kicks off in less than two weeks, and were all fairly confident. They praise Bobby Petrino and his “killer instinct” and his ability to find the strength of his players to be successful.

Here are just some of what WKU’s fans had to say:

I think its funny reading all of the UK smack talk on all of these message boards like they are coming off of a great season….Some of their fans are saying how WKU does not have the talent UofL did and or Arkansas and Petrino will not be able to do this and that..Meanwhile they do even mention its their Head Coachs FIRST ever game as Head Coach at any leveL… I don’t care who your Offensive Coordinator is that is still something to consider if you are spouting off about our Head coach who has had success from Idaho to Arkansas….

I fully expect this to be a very close game. Many UK fans seem to believe that they are going to throttle us and “give us what we deserve” for last year. For those fans, I have two words: Bobby Petrino. While Stoops is promising, this will be his head coaching debut and it just so happens to be against one of the top 10 coaches in college football. Petrino already has a full game scheme to stick it to UK. This opportunity is just too great for him. Believe that. I’m taking the TOPS 37-27

The only way I see us losing to UK this year is if our inexperienced QB, whoever that may be, comes in and plays a terrible game, which is very possible in what will be a big game atmosphere.

I predict  “PAIN” and I pity the fools (UK).
They won’t have an answer to Antonio Andrews and Leon Allen and as Andrew Jackson
was quoted to say after our first game against UK 2 years ago.  “They ‘posed to be SEC.  ‘Posed to be SEC.  Nah!
WKU 31  UK 28
Long live Big Red and Bobby Petrino!

I think it’s safe to say the looming game against WKU will be a defining moment early in the season for the Cats, and if we want Stoops’ career in the Bluegrass to start off on a good note, it’s time to take back the state of Kentucky.

Let’s wait and see if too much of Jimbo Fisher rubbed off on Stoops before we run around talking trash.

Comments are dead on actually! Petrino could have turned the recruiting around just like stoops…the only difference is that he could COACH them once they got here. And Petrino would have lasted longer than stoops! Let stoops have one great year and watch how fast he bolts to fla state!

And Petrino would have lasted longer than stoops! Let stoops have one great year and watch how fast he bolts to fla state!

You can say that with a straight face, can you? Considering Petrino’s “longevity and loyalty” to UoL, the Falcons, and his hasty exit at Arkansas….

He may be a better coach, but if you think that Petrino is going to stay one day longer in Bowling Green than he has to, you are deluding yourself.

They can talk all the trash they want-they won the last outing. None of you can say that UK fans aren’t doing the same thing-even after losing last year. Those first three quotes have a lot of common sense in them. The way to shut them up is to beat them soundly. We will see in a couple weeks. The winner will (and rightfully so) talk trash till the next time we play. Titan stadium is Stoops first “proving ground” but is also the same for Petrino….. We will see.

lets be honest though, its not really taking back the state of KY unless we beat u of l. i love UK and all but they unfortunately are the face of KY college football until we can beat them.

Those comments were painful to read. Not bc of what they said but how they said it. Is that what a WKU education gets you or did these people even complete high school? Good grief

You can’t spell “retard” without using some the letters in “red.” Which, coincidentally, applies to WKU and Louisville.

All of those WKU fans comments were dead on accurate except for the last one. All true statements. It should be a fun game.

So what if WK wins. Ky is building for the future. It’s not if they win but did they play well. I believe with 3 years of recruiting that UK will not be a SEC doormat any longer and they will sooner than later start winning in the SEC against teams that normally have our number. You can’t put Stoops and Petrino in the same class yet, but does Western not realize that UK could have had Petrino? Big deal. He want stay there long.

With the condition joker left the program in no uk fan really expects anything this year.

#3….might want to double check Bobby Petrino’s recruiting record. In 4 years at Louisville he had 32 3 star recruits. Oh by the way nice job getting a Brohm to go there. 15 of those players were in his last class. 21 of those players from the last class never played for Louisville. He was there for 4 years. He was at Arkansas for 4 years. What happened the year he left both schools?

    4) so you can say with a straight face that you would prefer another 30 yrs of a bottom feeding program with a so-so coach than one yr with a “top 10 in the nation” team like Petrino produced at every school you mentioned??

#15 couldn’t agree more. I never understood all the hype with Petrino. He produced with other coaches talent. Then when his players come through he bolts for anther job. Then the team is much worse once he leaves. I am SOooo thankful we didn’t stoop that low.

No, no one would choose that obviously. Luckily for us that wasn’t our options when it came to Stopps & Petrino. If you think UK will remain a bottom feeder with Stoops I really question your level of intelligence…

19, You’ve drank waaay too much of Mitch’s Kool-Aid. Bottom line is if Coach Stoops drops his first game to a team who’s HC was the overwhelming fan base choice while our AD ignored our fans cries and went his own way, then Mitch needs to GTFO.

Ok here’s what I don’t get. Since when does WKU have actual real fans? I know several WKU alums (some very recent) who are either UK or UL fans and couldn’t care less about WKU athletics. I thought this was pretty much standard with WKU students and alums. WKU having actual dedicated fans must be a verrry recent development.

  25. WKU has die hards
    3:46 pm August 19, 2013 Permalink

23 – Believe it or not, WKU has had die hard fans for a long time! They don’t have near the fan base that UK or UL have, but they do have a group of fans that despise UK and UL. Being from the area I know many personally. Whether you realize it or not, WKU actually has a pretty decent history, especially in basketball. There are probably me more die hards that are 60’s and above than there are younger people. But, the recent division bump up in football, and successes in several sports, as well as moving up to conference USA has a lot of the younger fans buzzing about the school now too. There still a long way away from catching up with the UL fan base, and I doubt they will ever catch up to UK’s fan base, but they have certainly surpassed schools such as EKU, and Murray who I use to compare them to.

I don’t understand how “embarrassment” could be a motivational factor – did you really think you were a shoein to win that game….

I still remember the WKU player from a couple years ago saying “They sposed to be SEC”. That should be your motivational embarrassment.
