You may or may not remember, but some time during the past season, John Calipari organized over 1 million dollars in donations to the Haiti relief fund. Part of those donations came from eBay auctions featuring packages from a dinner with a Willie Nelson signed guitar at Texas Roadhouse to meeting LeBron and getting tickets to a Cavs playoff game (hope they used those early on,) to Taylor Swift tickets (I think Matthew Mitchell was the winner of those.) The item that went for the most money, though, was Dinner for Six at Coach Calipari’s house with Ashley Judd (and it went for $32,500.) Well, for those of you foodies out there, the menu was released and it sounds… fancy.
Hors d’oeuvres: Slow-roasted tomato tartlets with Purple Haze goat cheese and pine nuts, fried baby artichokes, Meyer lemon aioli cucumber shooters and cheddar wafers.
First course: Handmade pappardelle with butter de Reggiano Parmesan, shaved Umbrian white truffles, Parmigiano-Reggiano and chives.
Second course: A composed salad of heirloom tomatoes, roasted yellow beets, arugula, baby jewel tomatoes, Maytag blue cheese, candied spiced walnuts and frizzled leeks with basil vinaigrette.
Third course: Seared halibut fillet with ratatouille.
Fourth course: A prime rib-eye steak grilled over hickory, gratin cheddar potatoes, haricot vert, tomato fondue and smoky shallot rings.
A cheese and fruit course will follow.
Dessert: Tiramisu and coffee.
While I can’t pronounce half of the things on the menu, I can say I’m jealous of the Surf N Turf followed by cheese fondue.
