Well this should be fun. If you’ve been around pop culture for the past seven years or so (since Comedy Central made the idea popular in 2003), you are probably familiar with the concept of ‘roasting’ a celebrity. Essentially it’s when people who pretend to be friends get together to make fun of a selected ‘honoree’ for a couple hours, before saying they were just kidding and they love them in the end. All in all, roasts tend to be marginally funny.
What could improve upon their entertainment value, you might ask? Why, roasting someone with a notoriously loud mouth and short temper, of course. Somebody somewhere agreed with me, and the Comedy Gods are bringing us the Celebrity Roast of Bob Knight. Old friend of the blog Jay Bilas will be acting as the Master of Ceremonies, and he will be joined by everyone from the likes of Digger Phelps to sportswriter Bob Hammel. So far, it doesn’t appear as if Coach Cal will get a chance to make a speech, but if he does rest assured, it will be the greatest night in Kentucky Basketball history.
Also, KSR begins the search for press passes to this event now. If you know someone that knows someone, let us know. It could be legendary.
