Head Coach Power Rankings

Just browsing the Internets this morning and I came across a piece Rivals has done on Head Coach Power RankingsWhile the list isn’t a complete piece of crap, it’s pretty close.  Here’s the Top 10:
1. Roy Williams, UNC
2. Tom Izzo, MSU
3. Coach K, Duke
4. Jim Calhoun, UCONN
5. Ben Howland, UCLA
6. Bill Self, Kansas
7. Rick Pitino, UofL
8.John Calipari, UK
9. Jay Wright, Villanova
10. Jamie Dixon, Pitt
Now our author, a one Mr. Steven Megargee claims that these power rankings take recent success and career achievement into account, but do NFL or NBA power rankings take past franchise achievement into account? Of course not. To me, if you’re going to accurately do power rankings, especially at the beginning of the season, you base it on three thingsA. Last season’s results, 2. Expectations for the coming season and C. Off season buzz.  Now if we’re doing Patrick Barker’s NCAAB Head Coach Power Rankings, here’s what it would look like-
1. Roy Williams, UNC
2. Bill Self, Kansas
3. Tom Izzo, MSU
4. John Calipari, UK
5. Jay Wright, Villanova
6. Jim Calhoun, UCONN
7. Ben Howland, UCLA
8. Coach K, Duke
9. Matt Painter, Purdue
10. Sean Miller, Arizona

There, I’d say that looks a little better. Obviously Rick’s off season escapades cost him in my rankings and preseason buzz about the Boilermakers helped Painter’s status. Roy Williams is the undeniable #1, but how you can have anyone other than Self at #2 is beyond me. What say you?
