Harrison Twins will meet with Maryland on Wednesday

Mark Turgeon’s got one last shot.

With only a few days left before the big announcement, Maryland will have one last shot at wooing the Harrison Twins. Evan Daniels reports that the Twins will host Maryland on an in-home visit on Wednesday before announcing their decision on Thursday.

Is this a last ditch effort by Maryland to change the Twins’ minds? If so, stand strong in your choices, young ones.

this is either the twins telling the coaches in a formal way that they are not coming to maryland (which seems unlikely) or that they are telling the coach at dinner that they have decided to go to Maryland (which would make sense). Those to me seem like the only two things that they would be having them for an in home visit. Surely the twins have already made their decision

Seems like the twins are leaning UK but Dad is doing everything he can to sway them toward Maryland. Would love to be a fly on the wall in the Harrison’s home Wednesday night and Thursday.

    1) They want to join BBN but dad is doing all he can to help Maryland in a last chance effort
    2) They will join BBN and having the relationship they do with Turgeon, they will respectfully let him know in person
    3) They are going to Maryland and letting him know

Since UK for the most part gets what they want, I would love to see Cal for once take the best that will sign early. One of these days this waiting around on specific recruits will bite him in the arse. If we are who we think we are, no need to wait this late on a recruit. Ink the best, which is still better than anyone else, and move on. Hate to see this board if they say “NO” to us. I feel Cal knows who’s coming, and who isn’t. I think they’ve been teasing the fanbase for some time now.

If the kids were going to choose UK they would not have the Terp coach in their home. They would just simply call or whatever. I cannot blame the dad for being involved with his kids and their future–that is his job! But this is just another classic case of the parent riding out the glory of big time basketball recruiting! Dad has/will make the decision in this one guys. He has that right after all. Cal put his eggs in this basket (and after they made 2 trips to Big Blue Madness) I cannot blame him. The basket is getting ready to tip over and the eggs tumble out! Cannot win them all guys! Move on.

We don’t know what the in home visit means because we don’t know a very important fact: who set the meeting up? If the Harrisons invited Turgeon, it’s most likely the twins are telling Turgeon, in person, that they’re attending Maryland. Otherwise, it’d be like being invited back after a job interview only to have the boss tell you that you didn’t get the job. That’s an awkward situation.

On the other hand, if Turgeon set the visit up, it may be a last ditch effort on his part. The Harrisons may have accepted the meeting only because they are on the line or have a lot of respect for Turgeon and are willing to give him one last chance.

@21. good point. since the Harrison twins were going to announce in late October and then moved up their announce date prior to BBM, it makes me think Maryland has the been given a verbal and Turgeon is dropping by to sew up the letter of intent.

Assuming for a second we lose these guys, what point guard do we go after? Maybe this will finally be the impetus for James Young to commit (as SG).

#25/26 When you pose as me, at least capitalize the ‘S’ so it looks authentic, OK?. I haven’t read anything on Yahoo or any other site that says Maryland for sure. I just know one thing, similar to #24 Post– you don’t invite someone to fly across the country, sit in your living room with your family, and tell them NO. They probably want some last minute assurance as to playing time, accomodations, playing style, jersey numbers, who knows. Why would the Twins agree to let Turgeon visit them, in their house, if they already decided on UK? Most recuits don’t even call the other schools to tell them No, they just call the coach they’re committing to. Turgeon was in Texas last week, then they rushed the announcement date up 3/4 weeks, then the in-home visit comes out of nowhere… it all leads to Maryland.

We should all agree on something out of decency even though I know people won’t. If the Harrison twins were to choose another school can we not senf them threatening messages and insult them in every way possible because that is so embarrassing. They’re 18 year old kids who have the right to choose whatever school they want just like we did, UK isn’t the only school in the country even though UK fans honestly don’t seem to realize that

When have the rules changed about in home visits? As I best remember, you are only allowed One (1) in home visit from a total of six (6) coaches. Turgeon has already had his in home visit as has coach Cal. Has this rule changed? Aside from that, it looks like Turgeon got really nervous when he found out the twins were going to commit so much earlier and managed to get the dad to ok one final visit….I still think Cal wins this one which in turn is a big win for the twins….

but if turgeon was n texas last week an the twins have decided on mayland y an in home visit this week or is it that he was n texas last week the twins move the date up cuz they have decided on uk an turgeon is takin one more crack at it i think the fact turgeon was n texas last week an they move up the date would b a bad sign for bbn but turgeon being in texas last week twins move up the date then a last minute visit with turgeon
that last visit wouldnt b needed if they were goin to maryland but who knows lotta way to look at it we will see thursday mayb if they dont decide to delay the announcement

    It all makes me uneasy…
    1. A UA guy is their allowed contact? Comforting…
    2. Last in-home, all the way from Maryland? PERHAPS a respectful decline, but I really doubt it.

Sometimes you can’t beat daddy. Daddy clearly made his choice, and that makes sense in the grand scheme, but even if UK minded now, all of this late pressure has to be hard for Cal to overcome. It sounds like UK now, but Daddy with this much control might win in the end.

Then again, Cal got T. Jones to flip AFTER his announcement…its NEVER over. If the boys’ hearts are set, its time to get this done and move on. Then still get James Young, Julius Randle and Marcus Lee and tell everyone else to stay home in March and save the trouble. I think Young and Harrison could easily play together, most 3’s are not much taller the 6’6 or so like oung, and we’d be lethal from outside.

I was reading a Maryland message board last night and a Terps fan on there said he had connections with a family in Louisville who are boosters for UK… He said every time this family says a particular recruit will go to UK, they always do. He said the family told him the Harrison twins are gonna pick the CATS. I hope he’s right

Why the sarcastic comments about Under Armor showing the twins “money”? Keep in mind, your coach is the biggest cheat in college basketball, and everyone knows it!

In all seriousness, Maryland fans have great respect for Kentucky’s college BB history, just not your coach. It would be understandable if these kids picked Kentucky. But Maryland is a great school too…one of the best in the ACC for basketball. I would imagine these kids would want to play in a league against Duke, North Carolina, Syracuse and Pitt amongst others. No disrespect, but the SEC can’t touch the ACC in basketball. And don’t discount the fact that Shaq Cleare committed to Maryland, and he’s one of the twins’ best friends and played on their AAU team. Plus they have family in Baltimore, yadda yadda yadda.

It’s not about Under Armor or money. I think there is much more to the story.

Wherever they go – they’ll be great. I think Maryland needs them more than Kentucky however.

OK, so the UnderArmour signs do cause a bit of concern, but my gut tells me this:
Daddy has always favored Maryland. Daddy is also trying to raise his boys right. So, Daddy tells twins, OK you can go to Kentucky, but you are going to be men about this and tell Turgeon face-to-face.
24 has it backwards – You can hire a person with a phone call. You only fire someone in person.
    Come on down Twins!

So if they sign to Maryland, are they still coming to UK’s madness?

  51. ChicagoCat
    3:04 pm October 2, 2012 Permalink

Only reason for moving their decision date from Oct. 29th to Oct. 11th is that it’s the day before they have to go to one college’s Midnight Madness. And the change in date only make sense if they had decided to go to UK’s event. It would seem to me that The Twins can’t come to UK’s Midnight Madness on Friday, unless they officially commit to the Cats on Thursday. If they went to Maryland’s, they could say we went to UK last year. No one would blink an eye. If they come to UK that is two years in a row for them and there is no doubt they would become the first commits to the 2014 class. The key here is the change in the decision date. The dad is happy to play the game courting two great teams and holding MIke and UA in the balance. If he held the upperhand for UM, they would be going to that practice and could easily make their choice on 10/29 as they had said all along. While it is far from done, I think this plays stronger to UK’s case. We will know tomorrow.

The one that shut down out of respect for your first round loss in the tourney. From the direction your program is taken looks like you should be more concerned about who Duke gets instead of worrying about who we get.

So sorry I got my dates wrong. Been sick and lost a week, that or I am a LOOPER! And I am going to close this loop by saying that the logic still holds. Travel plans for Midnight Madness will come out. Only way you see the Harrison Twins back in Rupp is if they have already committed to the Cats. Add the pressure of wanting to be first to commit and they move up the commitment date. Go Cats!
