Happy James Young Day!

Just a week ago, we were celebrating Harrison Twins Day, which by all means worked out well for us, if I do say so myself.  Partly because I’m excited to hear James Young’s announcement this evening at 5 pm, and partly because I’m extremely superstitious, it would be downright irresponsible to ignore “James Young Day” today.

When the first domino falls, it’s only a matter of time until the others come cascading down as well, and while today’s announcement likely lacks the suspense that the Harrisons managed to cultivate, that doesn’t make it less exciting for folks who have followed Young’s recruitment over the last several months.  Young maintained a spot in the Top 100 throughout his junior year, but really exploded over the summer on his circuit, wowing scouts with his ability and athleticism.  That increased visibility earned him a consensus top-ten spot in the big recruiting services, and the #5 spot at ESPN.  Let’s take a moment to remind ourselves what the lefty is capable of:

James is a guy who, as you can see, is able to score from anywhere on his half of the court (and possibly the other half, too).  I particularly like 1:43.  Throwing him in a backcourt, or out on the wing, with the Harrison twins already looks like it has the potential to bring about weeping and gnashing of teeth throughout the SEC.  Billy D. is bringing in some good talent (and his son), but even the touted Florida backcourts wouldn’t be able to sniff these guys.

The two big players in Young’s recruitment to this point have been Kentucky and Michigan State, but considering Cal’s heavy involvement, and the fact that Young went to Troy High School (making it unlikely that he’d want to be a Spartan) (…history joke), most are suspecting this decision to be pretty one-sided.  Evan Daniels, Adam Zagoria, and others have pretty much ceded that if he picks another destination, they’d be shocked.  Even news sources in Detroit are already calling this one for the Wildcats.  That’s no reason not to watch his announcement, as we inevitably will, but I think we can relax a little more throughout the day this week.  Enjoy it, soak it up, and get to a TV by 5.

So just one week after Harrison Twins Day, Big Blue Nation gets a second, surprising holiday.  As James said so eloquently himself:

Yes it is, Mr. Young.  Yes. It. Is.  And should you make the right call, you can expect to see your 2,671 followers go up.  Just a little.

Does the kid ever pass the ball??

#3-what non-pg highlight reel ever shows passing. He’s coordinated; Cal will make him pass. What this kid has is a mid-range, absorb contact game with more height than D. Lamb. He’ll be a monster on the court with our style of play.

Why have an announcement, when the video already declares him committed?

I don’t care if he isn’t a pg…when he has TWO teammates open under the basket I don’t want to see him go up with a circus shot. I know Cal will make him pass I just hope he doesn’t cause friction because of his unwillingness to.

Ha. He’ll be coached out of that or he’ll sit on the bench. If there’ll be friction it’ll be James Young vs. James Young friction. I don’t think that’ll happen; it’s easier to give the easy pass when the easy pass is to a kid rated higher than you, that you can trust to not do something stupid.

No need to tune in at 5 … you would be better served to tune in at 5:30. You can avoid all the other fluff and garbage that way. Lessons learned from the Twin’s announcement.

What does the new BCS poll say about UK football??…..

“Florida (1). Difference from the USA Today coaches poll: plus-five spots. The microchips are impressed by the four Southeastern Conference victories — well, at least by three of them. Beating Kentucky probably doesn’t do much for the strength of schedule.”

    Thank God Basketball is here

I love Kentucky and UK athletics. But good God I hate some of the people who call themselves fans of the program. I see why some people hate us. Especially if they only communicate with the asses that comment on this website.

12 – 5:30 is probably more accurate, you’re right. If you want to be safe, then 5-6 EST. But they want to trick people into watching more of their otherwise awful programming, so they delay it as much as they possibly can.

James Young is terrible! Did you not see that highlight video? No assist, No rebounds, No freethrows! How is this guy going to make it playing at the next level?!? I know I wouldn’t want him at my school!

If we get Young and Randle that means we have 2,3,4,5 recruits in the nation. That is just absolutely unreal and I can see where schools would say Cal must be cheating because thats astonishing! But the truth is CAL is just an amazing recruiter.

24.) Doron Lamb never dunked once in the two years he was here jackass, and he was just fine. This kid is suppose to be that type of player. A scorer with all ranges. He is bigger than Doron, can dunk, and can already take contact, which Lamb struggled with at times. Get back from the cliff sir he is the #5 to #9 recruit in the whole nation. He is good.

People watch one highlight film and they are already disappointed. You can tell by the comments which people here never looked into the recruit until the last 2 days. He is considered a great passer for crying out loud #smh.

After watching his highlights, he looks like a perfect 3 for Cal, he has a good touch and dribble’s the ball decent. I think he will be a perfect fit in the dribble drive system. This is a exciting day for the Cats, I really love rubbing it in the Memphis fans here with our recruits.
