Today let’s take some time to remember the man affectionately known as the Terminator on this, his birthday. After the copious praise heaped on him by Jets coach Rex Ryan during HBO’s Hard Knocks for his work ethic and vicious nature on the field, he was getting a lot of love from NFL types before the season even began. His rattling hits were one of the main topics of conversation in Jets training camp and he was immediately touted as a player to watch out for.
John was one of a few former Wildcats to get a lot of love at the professional level last season. After the buzz he generated in training camp, both Stevie Johnson and Jacob Tamme would go on to have breakout seasons of their own. It’s great to see UK players get that name recognition at the next level. Hopefully, that’s a trend that will only pick up in the next few years.
After going in the fifth round of the draft, the former Wildcats walk-on posted 44 yards and a touchdown on eight carries during a season in which he saw limited minutes while still learning behind Tony Richardson. He also did a lot of stuff like this:
