It appears the Mister Unlimited Nights and Weekends himself, Kelvin Sampson, is about to sign on as an assistant with the Milwaukee Bucks. First of all, wasn’t incoming Bucks coach Scott Skiles once rumored as Sampson’s replacement at IU? I’m sure there is some sort of interesting story there. Or not.
My favorite part of the story has to be that since leaving IU, Sampson has been an “unofficial observer” for the San Antonio Spurs. I’m not sure what exactly an unofficial observer does, but don’t you think it had to kinda give Sampson a little bit of a sports boner knowing that his job was “unofficial”? I think he likes living on the edge of professionalism.
I think this raises a deeper question, though. Do you think that a guy should be able to just hang a college out to dry and then get immediately employed by the NBA? It seems like if The League is so hell-bent on keeping all of the kids in school and employing dress codes and whatnot in favor of “the integrity of the game”, then they shouldn’t let these cast-offs come walking into a monster paycheck without repurcussions. Wouldn’t it make more sense to show some sort of solidarity with the NCAA on this issue?
What say you, sweet reader?
