The poodle has picked UK again! I repeat, the poodle has picked UK!!!!!! If you remember correctly, this canine predictor accurately chose the Cats over Arkansas back on Valentine’s day. You have to assume that this is another great sign. After all, the poodle is on fire!
But, as lovable as that pro-UK pooch is, the real eye candy tomorrow will be the showdown between Jodie Meeks and LSU’s explosive scorer, Marcus Thornton. The Tigers’ senior shooting guard is second in the conference in scoring at 20.9 ppg (behind some Meeks fellow) and has emerged as a contender for conference player of the year in the past few weeks. If you watched the LSU-Florida game on Tuesday, you saw Thornton get out to what Jeanine Edwards called a “Meeks-ain” start, knocking down 5 of 6 threes for 15 early points – and he was doing it from WAY downtown. Let’s just hope Thornton doesn’t find his stroke early and often as nearly every big-time scorer seems to do when they waltz into Rupp.
And, while we’re hoping, let’s hope the CBS crew doesn’t compare Meeks and Thornton roughly 100 times and let’s hope that we don’t hear how it’s “the most important game Kentucky has played this year” more than once. You’re better than that CBS.
