Gorgui Dieng is trying to keep Wiggins away from UK

Andrew Wiggins’ host family at Huntington Prep is the same family that took care of Gorgui Dieng when he played at Prep.  Small world, right?  Anyway, Gorgui is using his host mother, Lesley Thomas, to try to push Wiggins away from Kentucky.  Thomas told the Courier-Journal’s Adam Himmelsbach that Gorgui gives her messages to relay to Wiggins.  She said, “[Gorgui] always says ‘Tell him no, Mom. No way. Don’t go to Kentucky”

Thomas also told Himmelsbach, “[Wiggins] doesn’t like the spotlight. That’s the reason I don’t know if he’ll go to Kentucky.”

Watch it, Gorgui.  We’re trying to like you.

2 things worry me about Wiggins.

    1. He doesn’t like the prime time spot light he will get 110% at UK.

    2. He likes the hot weather and that came straight from his mouth

Doesn’t like the spotlight? I think this kid is a special player. Maybe at the Kobe Lebron level. Once he goes onto the NBA, the spotlight will be on him whether he wants it or not.

“You can’t come here and shoot it 40 times a game,” Calipari says he tells recruits. “You’re going to have to share. Sacrifice is very important in this program, because there are going to be seven or eight guys on your team just like you. This isn’t about you. It’s about us.”

    Calipari pauses.

“Not every kid can deal with that,” he says. “And if they can’t, they don’t come here.”

    17) The Sally Struthers comment is hilarious. There was a guy who said last year that Djeng’s name was Senegalese for P*$$% and I thought that was pretty funny too, but he got alot of crap for it. Ah well…hope I don’t get banned from the site (nor you).

#12, one thing wrong about liking hot weather so much that it would come into play which college to go to, because when it comes to the NBA what if he gets drafted by the Boston Celtics? Boston has some pretty brutal winters. Surely he’s smarter than that??!!!

#22 Struthers comment is just a humorous play on Rick Pitino’s quote “African kids…they are a pure joy in terms of the humility and the starvation to learn.”

There is no need to go overboard with an inappropriate comment. You know, some people will just try to make more out of it.

Huh, could have fooled me on Wiggins not liking the spotlight. There are an awful lot of videos out there that say otherwise.

Go back to the swamp site (or do they not even have one). Is that the reason you come here—–to a UK site?????, because UF doesn’t have one? Give us a break-blowhard, and get lost.

47, so you are not going to deny that your Gators have lousy attendance figures for basketball? I saw the pictures, and that was absolutely pathetic for a team ranked in the top ten. People want to accuse Cal of paying players to come to UK, but how do you explain a BB program like UF that lives in the shadow of the football program bringing in top recruits? Cal has no need to cheat to bring the top players in at Kentucky – it is what it is – one of the top stages for players to be seen by the national press and pro scouts.

I will give Florida credit that they at least field a decent team most years. It’s too bad that more schools in the SEC cannot follow suit. The league is absolutely pathetic this year.

  53. gog8ors
    1:53 pm December 28, 2012 Permalink

52- As the real gog8ors, I won’t deny that the basketball team has poor attendance. Florida is a football school and most of the fans don’t really care much about any of the other sports. This is sad but unfortunately true. Donovan has made the basketball team very respectable and doesn’t get the fan support that the team deserves. Donovan does get a tremendous amount of support from Jeremy Foley, our A.D. and this has been the reason I believe that he has stayed and not taken other job offers. Even during the two championship seasons, our attendance wasn’t what it should have been. Good thing that Donovan doesn’t make a big deal out of it, he looks at it as something that is out of his control and concentrates more on the things he can control.

Personally, I find the notion that Wiggins won’t come to UK because of too much spotlight being on him here is ridiculous. If he goes to Florida State for instance, he will be THE man…him only. There will be no one else to shine the spotlight on there. At UK, he will be surrounded by stars to take the pressure off in my opinion. Whether he comes to UK is up to him. That being the reason he doesn’t is hokum.
