Lets clear this up right now-check and see how much money maker’s has raised for UK the last 10 years for the school of music. This is probably the first time they have helped the cards, but have been working on raising money for UK for years through the annual special addition bottles. On the other hand-if this is a $8M donation, that may be a little different. Still-maker’s has supported UK for YEARS.

There is a book called “Wicked Newport Kentucky’s Sin City” By Dr. Thomas Barker, Dr. Gary W. Potter and Jenna Meglen:

Controlled by the heavy hand of the mob and fueled by government corruption, Newport evolved through the nineteenth and twentieth centuries into a notoriously robust center of criminal activity. With top political and law enforcement officials often on the take, the seedy status quo became so excessive that a May 1961 issue of Time magazine declared, Newport has developed such a gaudy brand of gambling and prostitution that it stands today as one of the nation s most blatant sin centers. Eastern Kentucky University Professors Gary Potter and Thomas Barker, both experts on organized crime, along with Jenna Meglen, offer up a captivating chronicle of Newport s criminal development, complete with thought-provoking assessments of the possible advantages that organized crime brought to the city commonly considered to be Las Vegas’ predecessor.

On top of that they have Brown-Foreman, huge generational wealth that is Louisville based. Central KY does NOT have that. Big Ass Fans, RJ Coman, etc., are NOT big companies. Horse farm wealth isn’t liquid. Coal & Tobacco barons are not around anymore. There is substantial wealth in Lexington, INCREDIBLE actually with a half a dozen or more of the wealthiest families in the world having connections or family memnbers in Lexington. That doesn’t make them UK fans though. Without naming names, one Lexington family has a stadium & a building on UNC’s campus named after them.

    Here’s the guideline:

The Federal Standards of Identity for Distilled Spirits (27 C.F.R. 5) state that bourbon made for U.S. consumption[2] must be:

made from a grain mixture that is at least 51% corn;[3]
    aged in new, charred-oak barrels;[3]
distilled to no more than 160 (U.S.) proof (80% alcohol by volume);[3]
entered into the barrel for aging at no more than 125 proof (62.5% alcohol by volume);[3] and be
bottled (like other whiskeys) at 80 proof or more (40% alcohol by volume).[4]

Bourbon may be produced anywhere in the United States where it is legal to distill spirits. But most brands are produced in Kentucky, where bourbon production has a strong historical association.[15] Iron-free water that has been filtered through the high concentrations of limestone, unique to the area, is often touted by bourbon distillers in Kentucky as a signature step in the bourbon-making process.[16]

Couldn’t donations for football also indirectly help basketball? We bring basketball recruits to football games all the time and if Commonwealth Stadium is rocking with brand new features, it creates a better football environment and also helps with basketball recruits to be even more impressed with UK.

Commonwealth is every bit as good except for the seats. The sight lines are every bit as good.

If you boycott Makers, you will hurt an organization that has been around in KY for over fifty years and could cost people their jobs. Also, support Makers and you support a KY business and the KY economy. #TeamBourbon #TeamKentucky

Papa John’s is in a concrete jungle and has not aesthetic value whatsoever. The stadium can get extremely crowded in its bowels as there are very tight walkways (with gravel and rocks on each side) between entrance/exit tunnels. You can barely move around at times down below. They have some nice corporate boxes although I have never been in the corporate boxes at UK. They also have some decent red seats that are relatively comfortable. Other than that though, the stadiums are equal in sight-lines and experience. I have never been really impressed by Papa John’s, or ever thought it was “better” than Commonwealth.

I went to U of L for law school and went to several games at PJCS. I grew to HATE that stadium regardless of the team playing in it. Those plastic “Play Skool” style seats are horribly uncomfortable (especially if you’re fat like me, and especially if it’s hot). Aluminum bleachers aren’t great, but they’re better than those things at PJCS. The way that PJCS is laid out is awful. Why do you have to walk through that dungeon area to go from the concourse to your seats (and if it’s raining, you just get stuck there if you want to get out to the concourse at halftime). There’s also ONE ATM in the entire stadium, and with the beer sales, the line is usually 40-50 people long. And with the new upper deck, if your seats are up there, you need a sherpa guide to get up to those seats.

And, altogether, there’s a better environment at Commonwealth. PJCS, unless they’re playing a big game, has much more of a “Triple-A baseball game environment.” Commonwealth at least feels like a college football game.
