Gillispie speaks…

The SEC had another conference call with the coaches that still have jobs today.  I’ll do my due diligence and listen to the whole thing and report back for the 5 or 6 of you that read that post.  In the meantime, here’s what Clyde had to say

On the upcoming matchup versus South Carolina …

“It’s going to be a very interesting matchup. They’re playing great. (South Carolina Coach) Darrin Horn has done a great job of coming in and instituting his plan and getting guys to do it immediately. It’s a hard team to play against. They give you a lot of different looks defensively. They do a great job defensively and they’re one of the hardest teams I would assume to guard anywhere because of their ability to make shots and get to the rim. They’ve done a fantastic job — both the players and the coaches.”

On South Carolina guard Devan Downey …

“He really knows how to play. He’s tough and he’s fast. He can make hard shots, he can make layups, he can defend, he’s very vocal and he looks like he’s a great leader on and off the court. I think he would probably totally epitomize that position.”

On the growing trend of coaches getting fired midway through the season …

“I feel badly just thinking about Mark (Gottfried) and Dennis (Felton). I just feel bad. I know both those guys personally. I understand the business but I feel badly for those people and their family and their players they have currently. I understand, but it doesn’t make it any easier.

“I just understand that’s been a trend that’s probably gaining momentum. As far as right or wrong, that’s not our decision to make. I think administrators do the best job that they can at universities. I know those guys are really good coaches and they’ve had great success where they’ve been. They’re very good human beings and they’ve been nothing but total class for the Southeastern Conference. That being said, we’re all making a lot of money, probably more money than anyone thought they would probably make. There are a lot of different things that happen. I understand the nature of the business is what I understand but that doesn’t mean that you don’t have a great deal of sympathy.”
