G.G. is coming home

gg

You’ll see a familiar face when you look over at Loyola’s bench during today’s game. It’s G.G. Smith, the son of Tubby and the older brother of Saul. G.G. is in his fifth season as an assistant at Loyola under head coach Jimmy Patsos. He got his coaching start as an assistant at Lexington Catholic High School and then two years at Kentucky as a graduate assistant from 2000-2002 under his old man.

He returns to Lexington as Loyola’s top assistant and he’s looking to take down the team he once coached. Unfortunately for him, things have changed just a little bit in the ten years since he sat on the UK sideline. There’s no insider information to use in his gameplan.  J.P. Blevins and Jules Camara aren’t walking through that door.

It was always fun to root against G.G. when he played for Georgia. Now we get to do it again.

Wonder if he’ll come out and miss a FT for old time sake?

I always liked gg on the floor
He’s still one of the smartest college players
I could never understand why no one else not even his dad or brother caught on to this: in the final minutes when you need to foul… Tangle before the inbounds to keep the clock from ticking!!

Tubby is GG’s FATHER, not his “old man”. Little respect please.
