Kentucky Sports Radio

University of Kentucky Basketball, Football, and Recruiting news brought to you in the most ridiculous manner possible.

Getcha Flattops Ready!!

Wow, how amazing was that? I thought all hope was lost. I even had a “it’ll be ok, UK fans” post written, but screw that, WE GOT NERLENS!

For the fourth year in a row John Calipari has the best recruiting class in the nation. With Noel, Kentucky now fills the void that the presumed number one pick in the 2012 NBA draft Anthony Davis has left. He brings a defensive prowess that some say they have never seen at the high school level, and its coming to Lexington. Did someone say Repeat City? The reaction of UK signee Archie Goodwin said it all for Big Blue Nation. We are all excited as well as relieved that we received a commitment from one of the two top recruits in the nation. With signing Nerlens, Kentucky now has three of the top fifteen recruits in the 2012 class and the number one overall class. Take that, Shabazz.

To put the icing on the cake, CatsPause.com says that big man Anthony Bennett is close to choosing UK over Florida, Oregon, UNLV, and Washington. Bennett, who was one of the best players at the McDonald’s All-American game, could join Nerlens in the front court for the 2012-13 Wildcats. Good luck scoring on that.

Here’s a little preview of the starting lineup if we do in fact receive that commitment from Bennett:

PG- Harrow

SG-Goodwin

SF-Poythress

PF- Bennett/Wiltjer

C-Noel

Yes, please. UK signees Alex Poythress and Archie Goodwin both told Big Blue Nation that they are excited to get to Lexington and that “can’t wait to help win another championship.” If that doesn’t get you hyped for next year, you’re probably dead. We just won a title, and we have to enjoy that, but BBN is just excited about UK basketball as it was about a week ago because Nerlens just came with this:

THAT. JUST. HAPPENED.

GO CATS.

I don’t want to be Debbie Downer, but Twany better work his tail off over the summer, we need another reliable guard. Ryan Harrow and Archie Goodwin can’t play the entire game.

You are aware that for most games it was only Teague the entire game? A lot of people could argue that Harrow is a much better point guard offensively and played well in a better conference than the SEC. WE WILL BE FINE.

I’m just worried about depth and ball handling. Is there any chance someone returns from the starting 5 this year. I am positive Davis and Jones will go, and with MKG projected at 2-5 pick he may go but also seems like he loved the college life and game so maybe 1 more year…..hope hope… But Teague and Lamb could probably use another year of college and the team could surely use them. I think we need some veteran leadership and with Cal in charge alot of time a sophmore is our veteran player. Also if Bennett does or does not sign will we add anyone else like the UConn big guy or Jefferson.

The Cats Pause article was before Noel committed. Bennett’s decision may or may not be affected by Nerlens, but that would be a solid front line with Noel, Bennett, Wiltjer, & Poythress. #inCalwetrust

I don’t think Shabazz was keen on the whole sacrificing shoots for the team thing. I haven’t seen him make many passes in any of the all-star games I’ve watched.

He can be the man at UCLA and chuck up 25 shoots a game. They’ll be very average like that, but he will look like a basketball god.

It would be nice to get Bennett or Oriahki to give us some another low post player to compliment Nerlens like TJ complimented Anthony Davis. But I’m real glad we got the Flat Top Feller. He is the mack daddy of this recruiting class.

I’m just saying if Harrow gets in foul trouble we’ll need someone to back him up. This year we had Lamb and even Miller, but I don’t see Jon Hood being able to fill in at the point guard spot.

Re ‘the line-up’ what happened to Jon Hood? Won’t he play next year? Is he transferring or did he have a leg amputated?

I think he was Mr. KY bball, if I recall, and a highly touted recruit in 2009. At 6’7″ with good basketball instincts, a good outside shot, and leaping ability, is he going to ride the pine for the next two years while freshman get all the playing time?

Calipari has something planned… you know he has a backup plan. If we dont get another SG or PG that can shoot then we will have to rely on Beckham, Polson, Hood to put up some good backup minutes (I hope we dont have to because Hood was bad 2 yrs ago and after sitting out a year he probably has lost his touch). After seeing Nerlens tweeting Oriakhi , you know we have a better chance to get him than Jefferson. So maybe Calipari is trying to get Bennett and may have to choose between him or Oriakhi. We all know that Calipari knew today or yesterday that Nerlens was coming and he was trying to secure Bennett as well and that is why we saw the Cats Pause article.

    62) Were not going after any guards at this point but we have Harrow, Goodwin, Beckham, and Hood… Davonta Pollard is still on the board and he’s more of a 3 but the 2 and 3 are kind of interchangable at UK so getting him would be huge but we only usually play 6 or 7 guys anyway.

    Harrow 6’0 160 RS So.
    Goodwin 6’5 185 Fr.
    Poythress 6’8 220 Fr.
    Bennett 6’7 230 Fr
    Noel 6’11 210 Fr.

    Beckham 6’5 Sr.

In the last three years, we have have been a partner and witness to the creation and evolution of a living thing that gathers its ‘ resources (players & staff) mixes in fans, the University, the rest of the Nation and Cal mixing all the elements together puts his touch into the thing and then like a painter or musician breathes life into it and becomes the Valhalla of sports for us to watch and the players to make it continuous.
How else can anyone set here watching the departure every year of players that are as dear as family? Well it is the excitement all the new players bring.
Makes me a little sad for the “Richards” of the world whose only solace is the desparate hope his message board voices in every 3rd or 4th post that We cheat, our players are all paid humongous salaries, the whole world knows it, the NCAA is in on it, WWW controls EVERYTHING in the universe. Our success will be vacated. They are the only ones doing things the right way, they really beat us anyway, well they could have.
