I don’t understand why Minnesota fired Tubby, who do they think they’re gonna get? They had made the tournament 3 out of the last 5 years, which for Minnesota is amazing (The only 5 year period I could find that they were better, they had to vacate). Reguardless, I hope Tubby lands somewhere and has atleast one more sweet 16 run. Maybe if he takes a year off, we can finally get him to return to Rupp Arena.

You all just answered your own question – Tubby just won his first NCAA tournament game six years later, after bumbling regular season after bumbling regular season. It’s arguable that Minnesota can hire somebody better, but I applaud them for refusing to settle for mediocrity. Something tells me that we won’t be hearing from the national media about how Minnesota’s fanbase is made up of lunatic racists.

I think Minnesota knows they may not get anyone better than Tubby Smith, but they can get someone younger who can connect with the players better.

Another big factor was Tubby’s salary. He was making about 2 million annually, and its easy to see Minnesota thinking they can find someone who can go 46-62 in the Big Ten for LESS than 2 million a year.

You can’t pay a guy 2 million a year to lose 57% of your conference games

No. Matt you ARE WRONG! Calipari was not negotiating with UK the entire last season. That’s the difference. Tubby was talking to Minnesota for the bulk of his last season at UK. Not after the season was ended and while he was still under contract.

Tubby was negotiating while he was in the heart of SEC play. That’s a HUGE difference.

Also, when Tubby was at UK people were calling him a top 5 coach in America, but has even ONE person called him that since he’s been at Minnesota? NO. They have not. Uk made Tubby, not the other way around. He’s a solid coach, but he can’t recruit and can’t relate to todays youth. His defense is from before the 3 point line was invented.

He’s not a to 25 coach anymore and he was making well over top 25 money

It’s weird to kiss your kid on the lips beyond toddler stage (mainly because the little germ bags make the move themselves 9 times out of 10 and you catch a face full of slobbery, cheerio-laced smootch). I have twin 3-year-old boys and they’re even fazing out of that stage now. If I give them a kiss, it now tends to be on the forehead or cheek. Never would I imagine kissing them on the lips even a year from now, much less when they’re teenagers. Just gross.

So, one day I just let him kiss me on the lips and I’ve never thought twice about it anymore. He’s only 5-years-old and I have no problem with it. I think it’s reflective of a unique bond of a parent and kid that doesn’t last very long when they are little kids. I do think it’s weird when a kid is older, though. It’s weird that Crean’s son even allows it.
