Coach Stoops has mentioned multiple times this week during post-practice media interviews that the lack of depth and speed on the team shows, causing the coaches to constantly push them to practice at an uptempo pace. Stoops is taking another step in the right direction, by receiving a verbal commitment from Ohio ILB Dorian Hendrix after Friday’s practice. Hendrix is on campus this weekend taking an unofficial visit with 4-star Ohio WR Thaddeus Snodgrass.
Vince Marrow continues to flourish in the Ohio recruiting scene, with 4 total commits from the coveted recruiting pipeline. Marrow and Hendrix developed a great relationship, making his decision easy, telling Rivals’ Justin Rowland, “It was the staff,” he said. “I’ve just got such a great relationship with those guys. Coach (Vince) Marrow, Coach (Mark) Stoops, Coach (D.J.) Eliot, Coach (Derrick) Ansley … all of those guys. I’ve got a great relationship with all of them.”
Stoops needed to build depth at Linebacker; Hendrix looks to be the first of a few LBs in the 2014 class. For an ILB, he is very fast running a 4.5 40-yard dash, something I am sure is making Stoops smile ear to ear. Hendrix complements his speed with powerful run-stopping ability. He covers the ground well and delivers tough blows, causing you to tense up and feel sorry for the poor bastard that was unlucky enough to get in his way. It goes without saying that he isn’t afraid to ‘stick his nose in there’.
I know a 2014 recruit may not get you stoked for football, but if this Tweet from today’s practice doesn’t get you jacked up, then you need to check for a pulse.
Day #4 and the intensity was high!!! Full pads. Need to continue to develop consistency #Stooptroops twitter.com/UKCoachStoops/…

Those helmets Look “Game Ready”
Is that new for practice?
Thanks for the Update.
Some of the helmets have the white strip?
Explain.
#2- They are so the coaches can see which way the quarterback is looking then they review tape.
2) It looks like the QB’s only have them. In that picture, you can see 4 helmets like that, and on 3 of them you can see them wearing the red jersey, and the one in front is Towles.
Ah, 3 beat me to it. And he actually explained what it is for too! Way better than my response, haha
Hate to read about the ‘lack of speed.’
Hope Stoops can speed them up.
Stoops mentioning multiple times that there is a lack of depth and speed can only mean one thing. He has been here a couple months and knows what is coming this season. He is telling the fans that we r gonna suck, so don’t be on my case when we go 3-9 in my first year!! Smart move on his part.
Hendrix is from the same high school as Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller, as well as that of current KSR commenter, me. It’s good to see a talent go from one of my alma maters to another and glad to see Coach Stoops getting that Ohio talent!
