Damon Evans said it best in Sanford Stadium’s DUI Prevention PSA video: “If you drink and drive, you lose.” And that is exactly what happened to the University of Georgia athletic director. Evans submitted his resignation to UGA this morning, after being arrested for DUI last week.
Evans gave a sincere (and I’m assuming hungover) public apology the day after his arrest and a senior Georgia official said he would be surprised if the AD didn’t keep his job. Then came the police report with details of a female passenger (not his wife) and “a pair of red panties between his legs.” Although Evans claims he was just holding the panties for the woman as he took her home (really?), the athletic director’s poor judgment and behavior was just too much for the University of Georgia to excuse.
UGA begins the search for a new athletic director today and the committee is looking for a candidate who can prevent this from happening.
Georgia, we own you.
