Gary Parrish predicts the Cats will make the Final Four

Don’t stop believin’…

We’re halfway through the season, which means it’s time for midseason reviews from the national media. Despite a slow non-conference start, Gary Parrish predicts that the Cats will rally, win the SEC, and go to their third straight Final Four in Atlanta:

3. Can Kentucky make a fourth straight Elite Eight?

This might seem farfetched considering the Wildcats are unranked and 0-4 against schools in the RPI’s top 50. But you’d be foolish to dismiss a team with three lottery picks (Nerlens Noel, Archie Goodwin, Alex Poythress) and a point guard (Ryan Harrow) who is averaging 16.8 points and 4.3 assists in his past four outings. In fact, here’s my prediction: The Wildcats will win the SEC and make a third straight Final Four and fourth straight Elite Eight, then reload with a fresh batch of freshmen who will be talented enough to maybe go undefeated next season. (But we’ll deal with that last part at a later date.)

More and more people are predicting a Final Four finish for the Cats. It all starts with a big win at Vandy tonight.

Glad to see some national “expert” has faith in us. No one at ESPN picked UK to be in the final 4, and ALL of them picked lil brother to win it all.

I seem to recall a major run, not so long ago, beginning with a big win at Vandy. Someone with better memory help me out… was it the 27 straight by Chuck Hayes and company?

I love that Parrish has drank the Big Blue Kool-Aid…he knows that with Cal, anything is possible. I hope the team continues to improve and proves him right.

cats can only be good as their free throw shooting. They shoot to many in the offense to shoot that poorly.

2- yes, that run started with a win at Vandy. I believe the Cats were down at the half, maybe up a couple, but then played amazing defense in the second half that spurred a big win followed by a big run.

#1) They are all salivating for Rick Pitino to win it all. As if that will somehow validate everything he has done since he left UK. It doesn’t really matter if they do, U of L basketball is so far behind behind UK its pathetic. U of L chance at equal relevancy walked out the door when UK fired Gillespie, cause no one is or will be ahead of Cal at UK. Let the U of L trolls start in 3, 2, 1……………….:)

At this point Kentucky won’t make the Final Four because Poythress is overrated.

He’s been projected as a lottery pick because of potential and glimpses of capability. As each game goes by those projections continue to sag as the pro scouts and analysts begin to see that he doesn’t have “it”.

If you don’t understand it’s quite simple… he has “it”, but doesn’t have “it”. It’s quite tragic really. Like if the Bama QB’s girlfriend didn’t have a vagina.

Since the NCAA Tournament is structured to filter out the teams that don’t show up every night, having one we are relying on so much be inconsistent leaves us losing a game because some other team had 5 players that showed up.

Everybody thought Harrow was the problem. From his play on the national stage against UL he has emerged.

This team has so much potential. Could win the entire thing if only someone would hit Poythress over the head and get him to realize it’s not about him.

#8 MJ4UK – I’d prefer if UK doesn’t win it all that UL does. It shows that UL had to have a championship calibur team to beat us.

It also keeps the titles out of the hands of Duke & UNC while building the state of Kentucky’s basketball girth (even if it’s little brother).

I have complete faith in this team and most of all, Cal. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves just yet. We can make the FF, but let’s start by pummeling a weak SEC. See y’all in Nashville!

I remember KY going on a run against Vandy back a few years ago, Tubby had them beat Vandy by 40 something and they did go on a run, until they ran into D. Wade.

There is a BEAST lurking inside of Alexington.
And there is a man in his ear every day that will bring it out.
    Keep the faith.
They are ALL getting better, the mark of a Cal coached team.
AP will tire soon enough of the suicides and his teammates getting on him because his lapses make them all run.
Tonight would be a perfect opportunity for The Incredible Blue Hulk to show up; they have absolutely no one who can stop him if he makes up his MIND to dominate.
    Go Kittens, destroy Geek U.

If national coaches made a Top Ten list today of who they don’t want to face in the tournament in any round, UK and UCLA would be the top two.
    I can easily see both of them going d e e p.

Poythress does not have a big head, he’s just timid and doesn’t have the maturity to deal with the pressure right now. Hope he figures it out soon.

#19 – Jughead – When I say “We could win the entire thing if only someone would hit Poythress over the head and get him to realize it’s not about him” what I mean is…

He is mentally in his own way. By not being able to visualize having a 40 minute motor, he can’t manifest it.

This is different than having a big head, where you don’t want to do what anyone tells you.

Yet, it’s still a mental roadblock that can be overcome… but only when he can SEE IT (not about who he is now, but who he can be).

As Cal says, the best version of himself.

UK can’t beat BAYLOR on thier own court on Dec 1, not then and not even today if it was replayed. Final 4? Really? C’mon, let’s get a grip here people, it’s time to wake up. Top 50 team… pretty sure, Final 4? WAKE UP! Let’s just be happy to get in the tournament and win the first round game…ok?

#9-UK Fan, you’re right the Cats are too incosistant right now to make it all the way through the most difficult event in sports (NCAA Tourney); it appears that may be changing for the better. About Poythress, hopefully Camp Cal can start and keep his motor running. BTW, Poythress shouldn’t have a vajayjay…. just sayin…

@13 MemphisCat, D. Wade did kill us that game, but wasn’t a Keith Bogans sprained ankle that was the real reason we lost in that tournament. He was our best player that year.

21, you are crazy. We lost to Baylor with uninspired play without a true point guard. If we played Baylor today, we would win by double digits, even @ Baylor.

None of those guys could hold the jock of last years team. I’m a huge uk fan but I’m jus disappointed with this year so far, if any of these guys expect to b even in the NBA d-league they need to develop a ton in next 2 months.

#31 – Nasty Nate – You said, “None of those guys could hold the jock of last years team.”

    That’s a bit much.

    – Noel brings it every play every game.
    – Cauley-Stein is building a streak of games, you can see his effort on both ends of the court.

    – Archie Goodwin is a to the rim scorer. Only knock is taking occasional plays off on defense and getting a grip on his tempo sometimes. Those will balance each other out eventually.

    – Wiltjer is a lights out 3 point dagger. Maybe he could go work out with Stoops before March so he can bring some body to the defensive game.

    – Poythress. Well, I covered him already.

    – Harrow. Covered him already. Could eventually be better than Teague IMO.

    – Mays – Always there. Seems to know what his strengths and weaknesses are and is a good role player.

    – Polson – Can be an emergency backup is needed (proved it).

    – Hood – Who knows.

Yes, there is no Davis or MKG, but Noel could play with those guys. Archie could play with them too.

We will see tonight. If Poythress can’t get up for 40 minutes in his home state (after Cal’s one on one work) then he will just need another year to develop.
