Above is our winner of Midnight Madness tickets in the contest held via our Twitter account (Kentucky Sports Radio). The fans voted the above picture as one of the top two, and after much deliberation, we picked it as the winner. The reason was simple….it was slightly more creative. The picture of the two women below had the hot girl factor, but it needed something else. Give them a KSR sign or if they were doing something else, they probably win. But just posing, we had to go with the creative.
However if the two girls below email us at [email protected], we can get some tickets for them as well (same for the winning picture).
Now to the Blogger Contest. This was a tough call, as we continue to have great contestants as we whittle them down. Lets go in order….after a lot of conversation, Gregg Doyel (who judged every contestant with Beisner and I this time) and I agreed that Kate Martin was the best of the group. Interesting take with Goodman, went into interesting detail on a particular subject (journalist bias) and produced a great piece. Beisner went a little different direction and believed that Will Lentz was the best with his take on Alan Cutler. That made those two easy passes to the next round. All three of us agreed that third place went to Patrick Barker (actually Doyel put him second), and his profile of Doyel…good stuff from a consistent great writer.
That leaves three. While it wasnt his best work ever, Christopher Johns was solid with Dave Baker. He didnt teach us a lot we didnt know, but he did well and made a consistent, readable piece. That left Jared and Garrett, both of whom went with the Q and A. I actually thought both of the pieces could have been much better. Jared Quillen interviewed Chip Cosby and while it was informative on football, it lacked that special spark to make it a great piece. Chip is full of interesting viewpoints and can be made to say very striking comments and that really didnt happen here. One has to put that a bit on the interviewer. As for Garrett Sparks, his elimination shows just how tough this has become at this point. Garrett was the best in the last round and is eliminated in this one. While I understand what he was trying to accomplish with the Decoursey interview, focusing only on Gillispie made it a bit narrow. Mike is full of strong views on all things Kentucky and I didnt see them here….that makes it the eliminated piece.
Next week we take 5 to 4….and this year after much deliberation, we have decided to have two winners to the competition. The site needs the extra help and all five left have the ability to do it. Thus there will be co-winners and both will become bloggers for the site. Good luck to all!
