I’ve got an autograph pic of Mills hitting the “shot” to swing the game! One of my greatest memories as a UK fan. GBB!!!!!

That was sweet, but those highlights don’t even begin to capture the drama of that game. You couldn’t tell from the highlights that we were getting absolutely destroyed and wer down by 17 points with about 9 minutes to go. That part of the story doesn’t come out until Patrick’s wrap up at the end of the segment.

Thanks for the vault offering. Watched half the 2nd half at a Standiford field bar; missed the last ten minutes sitting on a Delta jet on the tarmac but was getting texts in re the game action from friends. Huge win; wish I’d gotten to see it as it happened. Also missed the Laetner stomp in 1992 due to work; I receieved a ton of calls in re the game that night.

I wish sportscenter would do a week long of throwback 90’s sportscenter stuff. It would be awesome.

The thing that the highlights don’t show either is, from what I remember, during the comeback in the game Coach K exhausted all his timeouts early in the 2nd half and Tubby refused to call any timeouts during the run to maintain the momentum.

Who knew it would be his last.

Patrick sounds so sad about Ky winning. He is easily the most vanilla anchor in the history of ESPN. Mayne is a braindead hippie who actually thinks he’s funny at times. No, actually I can think of many people who would be better than these two.

4 – agreed! They glossed over the HUGE comeback in the second half. From down 10 at half to down 3 with 5 minutes to play … I was like, “Uhh, we were down 17 with 12 minutes to go, is that not worth reporting? Ha.” I completely forgot Duke went on a 17-0 run in the first half to build that lead. Game is a total blur other than Mills’ and Padgett’s threes, plus Avery’s miss — which, at the time, I was certain he was going to make.

    1:54 am May 27, 2011 Permalink

Actually the first person to person text(SMS) message was sent in 1993 in Finland, and by 1997 it was the preferred form of communication for young people. Excellent job of assuming that #7 was lying without any evidence whatsoever to back up your accusation.

Just awesome. Doesn’t do the game justice though. As #9 stated, in UK’s big run, Coach K had already used up all his timeouts and there was a super long stretch of no dead balls/fouls etc and thus no chance for him to substitute. Of course Smith wisely was not gonna help him by using one of his.
