Friday Night Lights

Last night UK held their second Friday Night Lights Football Camp and there were some very good recruits in attendance.  While there were probably 150-175 players at camp, as usual a very small number are actually SEC caliber players.  Below is a snap shot of the main guys in attendance that either hold an offer or most likely to receive an offer from UK.

Mike Hilton (RB) from Sandy Creek, Georgia took an unofficial visit to UK today, but did not participate in camp. He did observe, but everyone was anxious to see him perform.  Hilton is a speedster that Tee Martin has been recruiting.  Hilton’s top three at the moment are Ole Miss, Kentucky and Mississippi State.  He is likely a package deal with his OL teammate Will Adams.

Zach Gordon (TE) from Carrolton, Georgia participated in camp last night and showed why he is nearing 20 offers.  Gordon told me after camp, “It was awesome.”  Gordon will take a few more visits and narrow his list by the end of July. He told me he would be taking an official visit back to Lexington this fall.  He would be a huge pick up for the program.

JD Harmon (WR) from Paducah-Tilghman really stood out among the receivers.  Harmon reminds some of Keenan Burton.  He is very fluid and is on the verge of “blowing up.”  He is very athletic and has huge potential.  I’m still betting he commits sooner than later.  We’ll see.

Dyshawn Mobley (RB) from Powell, Tennessee was probably the biggest surprise of the camp. Powell ran a 4.5 forty-yard dash and really seemed to surprise the coaching staff.  Last season he only played in six games and still managed to rush for more than 1,000 yards.  He holds one offer from Toledo.

Joey Warburg (OL) from Trinity HS in Louisville really stood out among the offensive linemen.  Warburg holds an offer from Illinois and I suspect the Cats will offer at some point.  He showed good footwork and has a great frame.

Michael Green (RB) from Dunbar HS in Florida is a smaller back, but very quick. UK has already offered his teammate Christian Brown (DT).  I think Green will be one to watch, but he likely isn’t high on the recruiting board.

Ike Spearman (OLB) from Lake Central HS in Indiana is physically ready to compete today.  He currently holds offers from Ole Miss, Vandy and Minnesota. I’ll be surprised if UK doesn’t offer. The kicker here is the Cats already have a couple of guys projected to play OLB.

Terry Davis (DT) from Wyoming HS in Ohio holds more than 10 offers. Terry didn’t  stand out as much as Thomas Chapman or Patrick Graffree.  However, the Cats need to add more depth to the defensive line.  Davis is a guy who could play on either side of the line.

Latrell Wilson (ATH) from SW Pulaski HS looked good last night.  He doesn’t hold any offers currently, but I”ll be shocked if that lasts much longer.  Wilson is certainly on UK’s board, it’s just hard to figure out where the staff likes him. He is 6’2″ and 200 lbs.  Some schools like him as a receiver and others as a safety.  He is a very good athlete.

Robert Lewis (OL/DL) from SW Pulaski HS is another big body the Cats are evaluating.  Based on feedback I have received, the Cats like Lewis as an offensive linemen.  After all, Mike Summers is recruiting him.  Lewis is 6’5″ and 290 lbs.  Both he and Wilson are good friends and the Cats could probably land both of them if they offer.

Austin Sheehan (WR), a teammate of Patrick Towles, accepted a preferred walk-on offer from the Cats Friday night.  He’s 5’10 and 160 pounds and also had offers from Butler and Morehead State.

1, I didn’t see it but if you were even remotely critical of KSR they’ll pull it.

What he said. I, too, read the WKU post and now it ain’t there. Much more interesting than the football post. My guess is that someone put it on the site before it was scheduled to be. They dribble these posts out over the course of the day and it just ain’t WKU’s turn.

I was a teammate of JD Harmon. That kid is an absolute athletic freak. Lacks in size however.

As a former teammate of JD Harmon, I will say that he is an absolute athletic freak. However, he lacks in size.

Quick is a priority for Joker Phillips. Very good player. Louisville is full of great players in the 2013 class.

Mike Hilton is not from Sandy Creek Georgia. Sandy Creek is the high school he plays for in Tyrone, Ga. It is actually cross county rivals with our new freshman RB Josh Clemons old school. Joker and staff need to get a pipeline going from Sandy Creek H.S.

They started playing varsity football in 1992 and produce D1 talent every year and have put about 5 players in the NFL already. You might of heard of one them his name is Calvin Johnson. I know we have offered a few kids in the past from SCHS but have missed out on all them so far. Sandy Creek is 29-1 and coming off back to back state titles. That is really, really impressive to do down here in this state which is like a football factory with all the talent Georgia produces. The last couple of seasons Sandy Creek has signed about seven to eight D1 players a year. To bad a lot them like loserville and tennessee. Heck they already have a DE comitted to Florida and the best WR in the state who just comitted to Auburn. Seriously Sandy Creek H.S. in South metro A’town produces greatness. I should know I’m a product of it.
