Kentucky Sports Radio

University of Kentucky Basketball, Football, and Recruiting news brought to you in the most ridiculous manner possible.

Friday Morning Ramblings….

Its late and I dont have a great deal to say (enjoy it because it doesnt happen often). I spent tonight at the Louisville Bats game with the UK Alumni group. The stadium had lots of Blue all over as Cats fans took over the Ville for a night. Jeff Sheppard was there, fresh off his mention in Sports Illustrated, but still reeling from his “worst interview in the history of radio” with us three years ago. The fans gave the C-A-T-S chant throughout the game and a great tribute to Bill Keightley was played on the big screen. Got to meet a lot of UK fans and fans of the blog and all in all it was a fun night. If you ever get a chance to go to one in the future, make it happen….and if you are in Louisville, get ready for the football and basketball luncheons coming soon.

Three quick things, before we hit the hay….

(1): The GJ Vilarino debate is one that is hitting epic proportions, even among those who wouldnt know the kid if he came up and punched them in the face (as he should). Even the Courier Journal had two columns this week, one praising and one questioning, on GJ and his future role with Kentucky. Depending on who you talk to, he has either had an improved summer or one that proves he shouldnt be at UK. Most who have opinions on either side have never seen the kid, and among those who have, opinions are all over the board. What is probably best at this point is to let the process play out and if he comes to UK (and all indications at this point are that he will), pull for him. He does have great athleticism (42 inch vertical and 4.5 speed), so the tools are there.

(2): Daniel Orton questions are becoming the new Patrick Patterson questions. Here is what I know….UK still the leader….either will make a decision before school starts, or if not, will wait until the end of the Spring. Could be in for a long one.

(3): Expect to hear a couple of new names next week on the 2009 recruiting front. I am told that two relatively highly ranked players are being pursued by the Cats that previously have not been linked with UK….if anyone knows who they are, let me know and I will follow up, but I expect some linking after the Vegas tournament next week.

We will have reports from SEC Media days this afternoon….more on the UK camps across the state….and a couple of important announcements next week about the radio show and some cool new possibilities for those of us who work on this site.

It is an exciting time…..
