Former Louisville football player Patrick Grant is suing UofL and Charlie Strong for asking him to cover up an attack by two of his teammates. The alleged incident took place on the night of October 24, 2010, when Grant was sitting in the locker room at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium. According to the lawsuit, Grant’s teammates Jacob and Isaac Geffrad attacked him, beating him so badly “he required immediate, urgent care and nearly lost his left eye, the bones around it being fractured.”
Grant also claims that on the way to the hospital, the team’s trainer told him “to lie and cover up the fact that the injuries were at the hands of his teammates.” Out of fear, Patrick told the doctor that he injured his eye on a locker door after horsing around with teammates. Grant claims that Charlie Strong promised he would keep him on scholarship and then proceeded to cancel it without letting him know. When Grant called Strong to discuss the matter, Strong “simply ended the call and hung up the phone,” according to the lawsuit.
None of that violated any of Strong’s core values, so it’s all good, right?
