Football week in review

The Cats unveiled the new uniforms yesterday afternoon.  This has always been a hot topic among UK fans.  From a recruiting stand point, kids like cool uniforms.  I’m anxious to see how people react to what Nike has done for the Cats.

UK offered kicker Landon Foster from Franklin, Tennessee.  Foster is hearing from a lot of schools and the Cats are definitely in the mix.

Louisville recently offered Joey Warburg (OL) from Trinity HS in Louisville this past week.  The Cards join Illinois as he other BCS offer.  With Jake Meador committing to Ole Miss over UK and others, I’m surprised UK hasn’t extended an offer to Warburg yet.

Shadrach Thornton (RB) from Hinesville, Georgia told BBK this week the Cats are his top school.  He also holds offers from Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt, Marshall and NC State.  He likely will decide this fall.

Devin Vandyke (LB) from Lorton, Virginia is visiting UK today. He holds several BCS offer and Virginia Tech has been the leader.  It’s great that UK is getting him on campus for a visit.  He would be a great addition to the program.

Tyler Drake (LB) from Plantation, Florida visited UK on Monday.  UK is currently Drake’s only BCS offer, but other schools are showing interest.  Drake could be the first commitment for UK from St. Thomas Aquinas.

The Cats added Travaughn Paschal to their 2011 recruiting class a few days ago.  Paschal is a 6’4″ and 240 lb Defensive End who played at Fork Union Military last season. He also had an offer from Pitt and NC State.

Hey Aaron, have the Cats offered Pikeville’s 2012 Kicker Zack Burgy-Vanhoose? They have to pull the instate player, especially since he is arguably the top 2012 kicker in the nation. ????

@2 good luck with that one. I was praying they would offer Monte Merrick who was one of the top in the nation in our own backyard. But that never happened. Thats what cost me any interest in UK football.

#2 and #7, a lot more goes into an offer other than them just being in-state players. Academics/qualifying chance, personnel already on the roster, accuracy, potential for development at the college level, etc. Just because we don’t offer an in-state kicker, don’t hate on the Cats.

Where is Merrick playing right now? I fully understand the sentiment, but we can’t sign everybody from the hills because it makes a good story.

With a name like Shadrach you know he can handle the heat.

    8. Monte had a 3.8 gpa it wasn’t that. He had dreams of being a dallas cowboy in the future. He wanted to play at UK but they only offered him a grayshirt. Which confused the heck out of him. So he took his full scholly to WKU to kick. He sat out last year with a hip injury because WKU had him practice on a slick turf when they shouldn’t have had players practicing let alone kickers. So he redshirted instead of starting since he was injured out. I believe they put him in 3 or so games last year towards the end of the year to try him out and he was perfect on fieldgoals one from almost 50 yards. He set all kinds of state records and had amazing potential. I watched him play several times in highschool. UK missed out on him. However during the spring he tried to break up a fight and ended up getting sucker punched by one of the drunks from behind and he hit the ground, getting multiple skull fractures and having to have his jaw wired shut and he was partial hearing loss in one ear. However he still wants to play and make his pro dreams come true. Every second he was off the field while the defense and offense were working he was on the sidelines practicing until he was needed. Big screwup on UK’s part. But that whole screwup made me lose interest in UK football. I don’t hate UK I just have my problems with UK football
