Yesterday, the UK Athletic Association released its operating budget for the 2011-12 fiscal year. Among the approvals for mouth guards, socks, and Jon Hood’s dip cup was a whopping $1.95 million dollars in upgrades to Commonwealth Stadium. That’s right: bring on the scoreboards!
Here’s how the $1.95 million breaks down:
– $1.65 million for the new endzone scoreboards
– $150,000 for concrete/structural repair
– $150,000 for steel painting around the stadium
Since the bidding process is ongoing, details about the scoreboards are still hazy, but Mitch Barnhardt hopes the upgrades will include “ribbon boards” to replace the Hall of Fame ring around the upper deck (don’t worry, Mitch assures us he will find another way to honor UK’s greats). The bidding process should be finalized in the next few days. The new scoreboards and other upgrades will be in place for the home opener on September 10th.
Keep it up, UKAA.
