Football Scrimmage Notes

Taking a break from watching some awesome Master’s play, the first scrimmage of the spring was held this afternoon at commonwealth. Many were looking to today as the beginning of the quarterback battle and the chance for one of the guys to separate himself from the pack.

The biggest rumblings coming out of Commonwealth were about the progression of the offense. According to Chip Cosby, all three quarterbacks saw snaps today with Hartline leading the pack going 10-15 for 153 yards and 2 touchdowns. Tailback Johnathan George had a 73 yard rushing touchdown and led all rushers with 127 yards on 13 carries. Locke and Cobb were effective early, but both sat out for much of the remainder of the day.

-With the talk already beginning of Hartline distancing himself from the other quarterback contenders this spring, his solid performance today should help his cause. Newton went 8-16 for 116 yards and 2 touchdowns and Mossakkowski was 5-11 for 88 yards and one touchdown. Afterwards Joker had this to say about Hartline:

“Mike Hartline is playing better than the other two young ones. All of it has to do with game-ready snaps. He’s had a lot and he’s played for two years around here. The two young ones have not played much.”

-Here are some more exit interviews from the offensive stars of the afternoon as the team prepares for the April 24th Blue-White Game at Commonwealth.  And check out the UK athletics website for more quotes from today’s action.
