John Anthony says put the house on UK – Ok, maybe just the $10 you found on the ground last week
Since today is the kick-off of the July recruiting period, a football post is obviously the right choice. Ok, not really. But, this obscure article from Doc’s Sports Service (handicapped handicapping for 40 years now!) lays out some predictions and gambling odds for the 2011 Kentucky Wildcat football team.
First thing’s first: we have Aaron Cordero here at KSR (locked in the compound’s basement with a phone and a computer til Fall) so there is really no need whatsoever to post the insights of some random guy out in the interweb. Aaron’s up there with the best when it comes to UK football.
With that said, let’s take a look at a few highlights from this article — This guy says that Joker wants his team to ‘play fast’. He discusses the obvious losses of upperclassmen and draftees on the offensive side of the ball and the need to replace them. Like me, he thinks La’Rod King has a chance to be an impact player this year. He like UK’s defense next season, but thinks we need to improve on getting the opposing QB’s. Blah, blah, blah.
Also, he thinks we have a running back named Raymond Sessions. Obviously, this guy is an expert. Ramon Sessions does play in the NBA though, so he was semi-close in that it was another athlete with a similar name somewhere in the world.
Now, what’s important. This guy predicts the Cats to finish near .500. Fair enough, I guess. He labels the Florida game as a chance for the Cats to make a statement. As far as gambling odds, he had this to say:
Despite it being a bit of a down year for the SEC East, the oddsmakers aren’t high on the Wildcats chances in this division. JustBet lists Kentucky at +850 to win the SEC East. What about their chances to win the SEC Championship Game? JustBet has listed Kentucky at +5,000 to win the SEC title game.
Now, we at KSR do not promote illegal sports gambling in any way, shape, or form… but isn’t it just so fun! I’m not one to ever bet on the team closest to my heart (and brain because being a UK fan affects my sanity), but when those are some pretty large odds. UK as the SEC Champs seems like something that could only take place in a far off fantasy world, unfortunately, so you may just be giving money away.
So… my questions are:
Would you lay anything down on those odds?
And what do you predict for next season’s football team? (schedule link)
